It lies to the south of Nakuru, in the rift valley of and is protected by Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake's abundance of algae used to attract a vast quantity of amingos that famously lined the shore.

It is the largest volcano in Kenya and the second largest volcano caldera in Africa. The Menengai volcano is con- sidered one of the best-preserved Krakatau-style calderas in the world.

It has an amazing lawn popular for fauntion and parties especially during weekends (par- ticularly busy on Saturdays). The castle built in the 1950's is great and gives you a breathtaking view of the Menengai Crater. A great site ideal for history lovers.

ANNUAL2020 SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE Nakuru Kariandusi #5| Places of Interest Museum The Kariandusi archaeological site is amongst the rst discoveries of Lower Paleolithic sites in East Africa. Dating back between 700,000 to 1 million years old, Kariandusi is possibly the rst Acheulian site to have been found in Situ in East Africa. Dr. Leakey, a renowned paleontologist, believed that this was a factory site of the Acheulian period.

KraftyArtZ is a small workshop based in Nakuru, Kenya. It houses approximately 60 talented local Kenyan artists and arti- sans who make a range of stunning hand crafted gifts and homewares, such as trays, placemats, drinks coasters, key rings, fridgemagnets etc. Visitors are welcome to the workshop and the art- ists are very happy to show people around.

ANNUAL2020 SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE Nakuru Lake #7| Places of Interest Elementaita Set within the eastern portion of the Rift Valley, the lake was produced approxi- mately 12 million years ago, and today much of the lake is part of the private Soysambu Conservancy. Lake Elemen- taita sits within the 48,000-acre conserv- ancy that serves as a sanctuary for na- tionally threatened colobus monkeys, endangered Rothschild giraes, and many other species.
