The Little Building, more commonly known as the LB, is the place that seven hundred and fifty students call home each year. Mostly underclassmen live in the Little Building, but you can find just about anyone there whether it be in the C-Store, the Athletics Office, Public Safety, the Cabaret, the Bookstore, or the Dining Hall. If you are looking for some familiar faces, the LB is the place to go. More than half of the student body lives off campus, braving the elements (rain, snow, and the B-Line) on their way to class. Students live in a variety of interesting locations ranging from Allston, to Brighton, to Cambridge, to Revere. All travel into school on either the Green, Blue, Red, or Orange lines, hoping to make it on time.

The women's tennis team held tough in 2002, finishing with an overall record of 3-5 and 3-3 in the conference. The Lions were runners up in the GNAC championship tournament in 2001, but with a small roster this year, the team struggled to win key matches. After starting the fall with a loss to conference champions Johnson & Wales, the team notched their first win on September 25th over 5-4.

Close losses to Curry and St. Joseph's, both 4-5, were tough to swallow, but in the last game of the season, the Lions routed conference college Pine Manor 8-1. While the team didn't make the conference

playoffs as anticipated, head coach Keith Warner is optimistic about next year's team. "Hopefully we will do much better with the new

recruits coming in," he said. "Our goal is still the same -- to win the conference." eg Sports Vtefe.

EMERSON COLLEGE zwaar- COMMENCEMENT

Graduation

Ronald Ludman:

Celebrating 25 Years

Ronald Ludman joined the Emerson community July 1, 1978 as a college counselor. He assumed the role of the Dean of

Students on May 1, 1982. This year he celebrates twenty-one years as the Dean of Students, and twenty-five as an Emersonian. Here, the Dean's students and colleagues offer up their gratitude for his support and contributions.

"Ron is the most fantastic mentor for a young educator. Masked by a highly-developed (and apparently very successful) poke

face is an uncompromising commitment to treat every day, and every individual, with the utmost integrity and compassion. I am very grateful for my time spent working with and learning from him." -Heather Clarkson former Staff Assistant to the Dean of Students

"Ron works to assure student participation in all aspects of the college, he is committed to building students' leadership skills, and he strives to empower the diverse voices of the Emerson community." -Jackie Liebergott President

25th Anniversary "Dean Ludman cares so much about the students and the college as a whole. He is a truly remarkable person. Getting to work with him on the Orientation Core Staff this past year was a

wonderful experience. I always looked forward to the days we met with Dean Ludman. ..and not just 'Ron, Your high professional standards, because we always had catered :ommitment, and drive lay the foundation for lunches for those meetings, but /our outstanding work—your sense of humor because he was so enjoyable to be md compassion for those around you make the around and would always praise us oad lighter and the path worth traveling." for the hard work we put into the Suzanne Swope job. Thanks for all the smiles, Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs Dean!" -Joey Watson '03

"Dean of Students, Ronald Ludman's continual concern and

involvement in each and every one of his students' lives is

admirable. I cannot fully put into words the comfort of walking by a Dean of your college, and having him not only know your name, but what organizations you are involved in and what has

been going on in your life, which is just another reminder that I made the right decision in attending Emerson." -Nicole Witcov '03 25th Anniversary Michele N. Fortier, '05, an Emerson student studying at the Castle, died in an automobile accident in Well, Holland in September of 2002. Michele was majoring in theatre studies, and had gone to the Castle to study European drama and music.

Michele was an active member of Emerson College, participating in numerous activities while she was a student here. She was part of the New Pathways program, and worked with two of our student organizations, Women in Motion and Developed Images. One of Michele's teachers. Assistant VMA Professor Katrien Jacobs, remembers her as, "...a very creative student who really cared about the other students in the class" and had, "...worked on a really amazing feminist project with a group of other students."

Andwhen the nicjht is cloudy , Ahere is still a liyht that shines on me,

SAine on untiltomorrow, let it 6e.

The 2002-2003 Common Grounds yearbook has come to an end. It was a long journey to get here, but as you can see from the book, it was well worth the time and effort. I am incredibly pleased with the way the book turned out, and I'm hoping you enjoy looking through it as much as I enjoyed putting it all together. I can't take all the credit for this 2002-2003 yearbook. First I have to thank my photographer, Neil Gabrielson, for all of the time he spent traveling to club meetings, sporting events, and any other random assignment he was given to provide the Common Grounds yearbook with amazing photos. I also need to thank Joey Watson for submitting countless photos to all sections of this year's book, getting the senior class officers together to write the intro for the book, and for being the only one to show up for all of the staff meetings. I truly appreciate it. I must thank the Technical Support hotline at Emerson College for helping me out, and calming me down, when the computer decided to delete its memory right before a deadline. To all of the club presidents who sent me club photos or told Neil when he could take your photo -- THANK YOU! ! I appreciate you giving up some of your time to help make this book great. Of course I have to thank John Carrier, our Herff Jones representative for answering all of our questions and showing up on deadline day with only positive things to say. And finally, I want to thank Sara Sheckells, my wonderful advisor, for absolutely everything. Without her, this year's book would not have happened. Congratulations to all of the seniors on your accomplishments. You are ready to go out and be great in the world. I hope throughout the years you can turn through these pages and fondly remember your years here at Emerson College.
