- Katsura - Acer palmatum Green spring leaves are pale yellow-orange with bright orange margins. Yellowish green in summer. Fall colors are bright yellow and orange. Dense growth - upright to 20’
- Nuresagi - Acer palmatum matsymrae Deep purple-black-red color; leaf veins are strong red in contrast at end of summer; white striations on bark; upright & vigorous to 20’
- Okagami - Acer palmatum Purplish-red new foliage deepens to shiny blackish-red in summer. Fall color is bright and scarlet; 16’ upright
- Osakazuki - Acer palmatum amoenum Intense crimson fall color seems to glow. Known as the tree with a “leaf like a sake cup”. Rounded tree to 26’; hardy and sturdy
- Filigree - Acer palmatum dissectum Light green to yellow-green leaves darken as the season progresses. Leaves are overlaid with specks of pale gold or cream. Rich gold color on larger leaves in fall. Cascading, pendulous 13’ x 10’
- Yezo Nishiki - Acer palmatum amoenum Reddish-purple in spring; late summer is bronze-red; fall color is brilliant crimson-scarlet. Upright, spreading 23’-13’
- Trompenburg - Acer palmatum matsumurae Unique leaf shape gives appearance of fingers extending from a hand. Sun tolerant. Deep purple-red into summer, changing to reddish-green-bronze. Fall color is crimson. 26’-16’ finger-like leaves reach out and down
- Ukigumo - Acer palmatum (variegated) Blended pastel toned leaves marked with varying degrees of pink, white, and light green. Fall color is yellow-orange. Leaves curl, twist, & undulate. Protect from sun; 10’ slow grower
- Suminagashi - Acer palmatum matsumurae Large-tapered pointed leaves. Bright purple-red in spring, black-red to maroon in summer, brown-red to crimson in fall. Prefers afternoon shade; semi-upright; vigorous to 20’
- Attraction - Acer palmatum superbum Seedling selection; leaf color almost as deep as ‘Bloodgood’. Burns in hot sun. Fall color is bright crimson. Hardy landscape specimen; upright, rounded tree to 23’
- Shigure Bato - Acer palmatum dissectum Deep maroon-slender leaves suffused with rich green down the center. Two-tone appearance. Fall color is deep red. Domed shape to 10’; needs staking
- Shojo Shidare - Acer palmatum dissectum Deep maroon-slender leaves suffused with rich green down the center. Two-tone appearance. Fall color is deep red. Domed shape to 10’; needs staking
- Red Pygmy - Acer palmatum linearilobum Large red to red-maroon strap-like leaves. Lace-like effect. Purplish-red in summer, bronze-green in direct sun. Rounded growth to 10’ x 10’
- Sharp’s Pygmy - Acer palmatum Green leaves turn orange to scarlet in fall. Compact, low spreading tree to 10’
- Red Baron - Acer palmatum amoenum Spring color is red to bright pink-red changing to purple- red in summer. Fall color is bright red. Medium, broad, upright growth to 16’
- Emperor I - Acer palmatum amoenum Holds color in shade and grows faster than “Bloodgood”. Deep red-purple to dark crimson in fall. Leaves are translucent and glow in sunlight. Upright to 24’

It’s time to plant Japanese Maples For Fall & Spring Color Year after Year
Japanese maples make an excellent stand-alone specimen, focal point, or accent in the garden. They thrive when planted in moist, slightly acidic, well-drained soil rich with organic materials. Perennials and ground covers planted around the base of the tree can add additional color to the area in addition to providing an area of protection to the trunk to prevent mower and weed-eater injury. Good companion plants include Ginkgos, Azaleas, Conifers, Sedum, and Dianthus, Cyclamen, Daffodils, Coral Bells, Mondo Grass, Hostas, and assorted ferns.
- Peaches & Cream - Acer palmatum matsumurae Variegated leaves emerge cream to greenish-cream blended with soft rose red; deep green veins. Yellow in fall. Delicate growth to 10’ x 10’
- Iijima Sunago - Acer palmatum matsumurae Leaves emerge reddish-orange, turning to purplish-brown with green spots. Yellow-orange in fall. Grows to 26’
- Inazuma - Acer palmatum matsumurae Large, deep purple-red leaves in spring and summer, turning deep purple-green, with green veins. Crimson in the fall. Pendulous growth to 30’ x 20’
- Geisha Gone Wild - Acer palmatum (variegated) Pink and green margins on greenish purple leaves. Fall color is purple-orange. Prefers light shade; reaches 6’ x 3’ in 10 years time
