These lyrics present an interesting paradox – a man who longed for his music to be accepted by the American public, yet remained indifferent to the social mores of the time. Porter offered trenchant social commentary aimed at a society restricted by social taboos and cultural conventions. The argument develops systematically through a chronological and contextual study of the influences of people and events on a man and his music. The prosodic intonation and imagistic texture of the lyrics demonstrate an intimate correlation between personality and composition which, in turn, is supported by the biographical content.     Value of YouTube to the music industry - Paper III - Promotion June 2017 RBB Economics 1 1 Introduction The music industry has undergone significant change over the past few years, with declining volumes of music sold through an ownership model (such as downloads) and rapid growth in usage models (such as streaming).1 While many services provide value to the recorded ​ music industry, in the 12 months to December 2016 one video streaming platform, YouTube, paid out over USD 1 billion to the music industry from advertising alone.2 YouTube claims that not only does it return money directly to creators, but also that it has a promotional effect on music.3 However, some commentators argue that YouTube has a negative impact on the music industry: paying insufficiently for content and cannibalising other services. RBB Economics has undertaken several empirical analyses in order to evaluate YouTube’s potential promotional or cannibalisation effects on the music industry in Europe. We analyse the results from 1,500 person user surveys carried out in each of four European countries, as well as data on YouTube views and streams on audio platforms of over 8,000 tracks across these countries over a three year period.4 In our first note we considered the evidence of cannibalisation by YouTube of other legitimate music services. ● Looking at survey evidence we found that significant cannibalisation is unlikely: users of music on YouTube are primarily lighter users, and if music videos were no longer shown on YouTube, 85% of users’ time would be lost or shifted to lower or similar value channels, and even to file sharing or piracy.

Astronomy is an observational science, as opposed to most of the rest of physics, which is experimental in nature. Astronomers cannot create a star in the lab and study it, walk around it, change it, or explode it. Astronomers can only observe the sky as it is, and from their observations deduce models of the universe and its contents. They cannot ever repeat the same experiment twice with exactly the same parameters and conditions. Remember this as the universe is laid out before you in Astronomy 113 – the story always begins with only points of light in the sky.     The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, D.C., DC 20500 [VIA EMAIL] April 9th, 2021 Dear President Biden, I am writing to deliver a petition, attached to this letter, signed by 29,318 people urging you to put an end to the racial profiling of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants and end the Justice Department’s “China Initiative.” Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC worked with directly impacted persons, who were inspired to take action but chose to remain anonymous due to fear, to launch this petition urging you to immediately end the “China Initiative” and the federal government’s racial profiling and targeting of Asian American and Asian immigrant scientists, researchers, and scholars, particularly by the Department of Justice (DOJ), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF). We thank you for your public condemnation of racism, xenophobia, and intolerance against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States and look forward to the administration's efforts to combat profiling within our federal institutions. Along with almost 30,000 impacted persons, concerned citizens, and community members, we seek to draw your attention to the increasing targeting and racial profiling of Asian Americans and Asian immigrants, particularly those of Chinese descent, who are working in science and technology. Asian Americans and immigrants across the country face not only the deathly impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and devastating attacks of hate on their most vulnerable, but are also being scapegoated and targeted by law enforcement and the federal government. This fear is only heightened by racist policies and xenophobic rhetoric from public officials fueling this resurgent xenophobia.
