Ginger Tea Recipe Ginger Tea Recipe Balances all three doshas and is very cleansing to the tissues. It improves digestive fire (Agni), builds up intestinal motility, and strengthens vital force. To make the tea, bring water, freshly grated ginger, and powdered spices to a boil. Remove from heat, cover, and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink throughout the day. This tea will get stronger the longer it steeps. You can adjust the pungency by varying the amount of ginger used and the time you let it steep. 4 cups of water 2 tsp. freshly grated ginger ¼ tsp .Ground Cumin ¼ tsp. Ground Coriander ¼ tsp. Ground Fennel Tips for Improving Digestion Eat in a calm and settled environment. Never eat and run – allow a few minutes after eating to relax or take a gentle walk. Sip warm water throughout your meal. Eat freshly cooked or prepared meals. Chew your food well and be mindful of its smells, tastes and textures. Focus on eating, not on conversation, TV, reading, etc. Leave 1/3 of your stomach empty using your hands as your guide – cupping both hands together is a guide to the amount of food to ingest and an equal amount of liquid leaving an equal amount empty. Avoid ice-cold food or drink. Eat only when you feel hungry. Eat at a moderate pace. Allow a few hours between meals and bedtime. Try to eat the bulk of your food at mid-day and lighter amounts at night. Sip warm water or ginger tea throughout the day. Give thanks. .

    Beatriz Dykes, PhD, RD, LD, FADA Background The Philippines is an archipelago (chain of islands) comprised of over 7,100 islands in the western Pacific Ocean. Originally inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Negroid Aetas and the pro-Malays. Beginning in 300 BC up to 1500 AD, massive waves of Malays (from Malaysia, Sumatra, Singapore, Brunei, Burma, and Thailand) immigrated to the islands. Arab, Hindu and Chinese trading also led to permanent settlements during by these different groups during this period. In 1521, Spain colonized the Philippines, naming it after King Phillip II and bringing Christianity with them. The Spanish colonization which lasted 350 years, imparted a sense of identification with Western culture that formed an enduring part of the Philippine consciousness, unmatched anywhere else in Asia. The prevalence of Spanish names to this day (common first names like Ana, Beatriz, Consuelo, Maria and last names as Gonzales, Reyes, and Santos) reflects this long-standing influence of the Spanish culture. The United States acquired the Philippines from Spain for 20 million dollars after winning the Spanish-American war through the Treaty of Paris in 1898, introducing public education for the first time. During this period, health care, sanitation, road building, and a growing economy led to a higher standard of living among Filipinos and the Philippines became the third largest English speaking country in the world. Above all, the US occupation provided a basis for a democratic form of government. World War II had the Filipinos fighting alongside the Americans against the Japanese. The Death March and Corregidor became symbolic of the Philippine alliance with the United States.

They traded glances silently as the Bronco bumped down the dirt road and the signs of civilization slowly receded from the horizon, Yang in the front passenger seat looking into the vanity mirror above the windshield and Fan-Len riding in the back seat with Xinyi and Yuming. Breaking eye contact, Yang threw a sideways look at their driver, who had spoken a total of eight words to them since the moment he had picked them up outside the bus depot in Prescott. You must be the Yangs, he had said, pulling out their name into three long syllables in a way that Yang had never heard before. When Yang had nodded, the man reciprocated the motion and brought out the strange twang once more. Name’s Larry Murphy. Larry Murphy was a tall man who wore a tall hat on his head, which dipped in the middle and curved out on the sides and seemed a bit longer on the front and back ends. He kept his eyes fixed on the road as he drove, one hand on the wheel and one resting on the head of the stick shift. Yang tried to think of something to say to the taciturn stranger, but being a man of few words himself, he decided to let the quiet alone. Outside, the fading light was coloring the landscape purple, and traces of snow on the ground glowed with a neon-like intensity. In the distance, a pock-marked mountain jutted into the cloudless sky, its jagged surface appearing to change color as their car continued west, into the quickly-dipping sun.
