Job Title: Sport & Athlete Performance Manager

Responsible to: General Manager, Arena University College

Salary Range: €50,000 plus Company Pension Scheme

Type of Contract: Fixed Term for a period of 3 years

Working Hours: 39 Hours per week Flexibility is required in order to ensure core objectives are achieved.

1.0 Job Purpose

Key member of the Mardyke Arena University College Cork Performance Team responsible for providing leadership in the design, development and delivery of critical programmes, activities and events to a wide spectrum of sports teams (of all ages) and individual athletes on behalf of Mardyke Arena University College Cork.

The Sport & Athlete Performance Manager will identify, support and develop a Mardyke Arena University College Cork staff team who will design, develop and deliver World Class services to a wide spectrum of team sports and individual athletes.

The Sport & Athlete Performance Manager will develop strong working relationships with Sport in UCC, the Irish Sports Council, the Irish Institute of Sport, the Olympic Council of , the National Coaching & Training Centre, National Governing Bodies of Sport in Ireland and any/all agencies/organisations who may enhance the service offered to sports teams and individual athletes through support, advice, knowledge, programmes etc.

2.0 Main Areas of Responsibility

2.1 Lead and manage the planning, development and delivery of critical programmes, activities and events to a wide spectrum of sports teams (of all ages) and individual athletes on behalf of Mardyke Arena University College Cork.

2.2 Identify, support and develop a Mardyke Arena University College Cork staff team who will design, develop and deliver World Class services to a wide spectrum of team sports and individual athletes.

2.3 Provide direction for the development and delivery of world class technical (including coaching and athlete development) and strategic support services.

2.4 Ensure the effective, efficient and economic delivery of all sport and athlete performance services as they fall under the remit of Mardyke Arena University College Cork.

2.5 To be the recognised strategic sport and individual athlete lead for Mardyke Arena University College Cork and to provide strategic sport and individual performance planning and management advice to the Management of Mardyke Arena University College Cork.

2.6 Research, analyse and report on national and international best practice in sport and individual athlete performance.

2.7 Grow, develop and maintain a network of contacts within all sports to ensure the highest level of awareness of the training and development opportunities being provided by Mardyke Arena University College Cork.

2.8 Produce reports, as required by the management of Mardyke Arena University College Cork, in a timely, efficient and concise manner.

3.0 Competencies

3.1 Educated to degree level, with Masters Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a sports science / exercise discipline.

3.2 Significant applied experience of high performance sport in a leadership role with demonstrable success. 3.3 Experience of working with sports teams, elite athletes, coaches and technical staff assisting in the design, implementation and evaluation of their performance programmes.

3.4 Advanced knowledge and experience of the fundamental requirements associated with operating and being successful in a national and international sporting environment.

3.5 Demonstrable experience of being an excellent people manager that uses appropriate interpersonal styles to strategically align, develop, motivate and lead a staff team through continuous development toward successful outcomes and attainment of ambitious business objectives.
