DIRECTOR’S NOTE THE STORY Why make a continuation of the short? After shooting the short film “Madre”, we were all left with a feeling of immense satisfaction. From the very outset, I had mentioned to creative collaborators and crew members that this short film had always motivated me like a very long first scene of a feature film. And everybody I told agreed with me. It was obvious we had a great piece of material. We wanted to carry on with Elena’s story. We couldn’t just leave her like that, rushing out of her house, terrified, in search of her son. We put so much effort into telling the story of Elena’s tragedy (or its beginnings) that the key creative talent involved, producer María del Puy Alvarado, actress Marta Nieto and the humble author of these lines, always thought that we owed something to the story and the character. -

Rétrospective Patrice Chéreau 16 – 28 novembre 2016 À l’occasion du troisième anniversaire de sa disparition, La Cinémathèque française s’associe au Festival d’Automne à Paris, au Théâtre Amandiers-Nanterre, à l’Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe, ainsi qu’aux Universités de Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne et Paris Sorbonne et au Lycée Louis-le-Grand, dans le cadre de la manifestation « Patrice Chéreau en son temps » Metteur en scène, scénariste et acteur, il signe son premier long-métrage à trente ans (La Chair de l’orchidée, 1974). Puis, devenu entretemps une figure incontournable du spectacle vivant européen, Chéreau offre à Simone Signoret l’un de ses derniers grands rôles avec Judith Therpauve (1978). L’école du Théâtre des Amandiers de Nanterre qu’il dirige est le creuset où se trouve et s’affirme une partie de la « troupe » qui lui sera fidèle. Par la suite, sa collaboration avec Hervé Guibert s’accomplit dans L'Homme blessé (1983). C’est aussi dès cette période qu’il commence à préparer sa célèbre fresque sur le massacre de la Saint Barthélémy, La Reine Margot (Prix du Jury à Cannes en 1994). Puis viendront le coup d’éclat de Ceux qui m'aiment prendront le train (1998), et ses dernières œuvres : Intimité, Son frère, Gabrielle, Persécution.
