NCR Corporation Logo Installs NCR Copient Interactive Direct Marketing Solution in New Concept Stores

Touchscreen, Web-based displays support new brand's approach to enhancing shopper interaction and customer service

Food Lion LLC, one of the largest chains in the United States, today announced it will install NCR Copient interactive marketing devices from NCR Corporation (NYSE:NCR) in its five new Bloom pilot stores.

"The NCR Copient solution complements Bloom's mission to better serve customers by providing a simple, hassle-free shopping experience," said Food Lion Vice President of Business Strategy Robert Canipe. "Bloom is testing some of the proven leading-edge technologies in the industry. The objective behind the technologies is to enhance the shopping experience and help customers find products, get information and check out with greater ease."

A complete hardware and software solution, the Copient devices will be placed at each checkout lane and at customer information stations throughout the store, enabling shoppers to check prices, locate products, monitor scrolling receipts and view advertisements.

Beyond providing product information, the multifunctional Copient devices will enable Bloom to deliver targeted promotional content, relevant offers and customer service applications, making shopping more convenient and productive.

The pilot stores, all scheduled to open by the end of 2004 in the Charlotte, N.C., area, are named, "Bloom, A Food Lion Market(TM)." The first Bloom store opened May 26.

NCR Copient recently received an award from the Global Electronic Marketing Conference, held to recognize excellence in electronic marketing.
