GENERAL INFO + PARENT/STUDENT GUIDELINES:

ISDI DATES: ISDI runs from June 4-15 and August 6-17, Monday through Friday.

ABSENCES: If your student must miss a day or portion of a day, you MUST email [email protected] by 8:45 a.m. on the morning of the absence. The subject line should state, “ATTN: (Student Name) Absence: Date of absence, time of absence”

LEVELS: All levels and sessions will prove to be challenging and enriching! The faculty will have a sharp eye on the students during the entire intensive but especially during the first few days to make sure that each student is properly placed. We may determine that it is in the best interest of the dancer and group to move him/her into another group.

ARRIVAL TIME: Please plan on your student arriving 15-30 minutes early to the start of the session to allow time to chat and warm-up. Doors open for the day at 8:30 am.

RESTROOM + CHANGING ETIQUETTE: We have many students and limited breaks. Please absolutely do not use the toilet stalls to change, and instead use the ample dressing rooms. Ladies, do not use the faculty/mens’ bathrooms (2nd floor). Parents, please use the downstairs faculty bathroom. All: please keep toilet paper and paper towel usage to an absolute minimum in order to avoid clogging the toilets.

LUNCH + BREAKS: All students will have at least one 30-minute break for lunch. Please pack plenty of water and a healthy lunch and snacks for your student to sustain him/her for the entire duration of the day. Absolutely no fried foods, chips (unless healthy), or more than one small serving of sugary treats. Not to comply with a dancer’s healthy eating regimen sabotages the effort to fuel the body correctly for dancing, and undermines the efforts of those around you who ARE maintaining healthy habits. There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for fried foods - they will be removed from the premises. Lunches should be packed and not delivered with a personal visit at lunchtime. Deliveries, if necessary, must be made 15 minutes before the beginning of lunch/dinner break, and dropped with the front office upstairs or downstairs.

PARENT DEMONSTRATION: There is a demonstration each Friday. Demonstrations for Sapphire and Emerald levels will be held at 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Demonstrations for Rose and Ruby levels will be held at 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Parents of students in the Aqua level are invited to both. Dancers’ families (children 4 and above) are invited and may take photos. No young children will be permitted inside the studio. Parents are encouraged to dress comfortably, and please be prepared to remove shoes upon entrance into Studio B in order to protect the marley floors.

GUM CHEWING: TDC is a gum-free zone for students, parents and staff! Faculty, at their discretion, may opt to chew gum if necessary.

PARENTAL VISITING POLICIES: There will be no undue parental visiting or observation. Parents should limit their observations to 10 minutes per day or less. Parents are not to use the foyer as an office. If you are visiting the last minutes of morning session, please leave the studios as class is finishing, before the classroom door opens. Your students are here to have THEIR exciting summer intensive with their friends and teachers!!! They will rejoin their parents when the day is finished at 2:30 or 8:00. Kindly do not request special consideration to this visitation rule. As a matter of courtesy, visiting parents should refrain from talking above the tone one would use in a library or gallery. Please keep the tone positive and general ... or, simply enjoy watching class for a few minutes!! You may take video/photos from outside the room but if your student requests that you do not, please respect his/her wishes. Please, do not signal to your student or try to speak to him/her from outside the studio.

HOST FAMILIES / PROSPECTIVE YEAR-ROUND FAMILIES: Some of our visiting parents from other states and countries are actively seeking housing for their student year-round in 2018-19 ... be sure to let us know if we should make introductions for you! Host families are paid, so if you live within 20 minutes of the studio, let us know if you may be interested in hosting for a trimester, semester or year. Likewise, visitors, tell us if you have a student interested in spending year-round with us.

NEIGHBORHOOD: We are in a great neighborhood! There is a Starbucks and many shops, fitness studios, nail salons, spas, movie theater and restaurants within 4 blocks for your convenience if you are unable to go home between drop-off and pick- up, or are visiting from out of town.

SOCIAL MEDIA: We invite you to follow The Dallas Conservatory on Facebook and Instagram! Here you will find lots of fun postings and important info. Please actively "like" our postings and make lots of comments! We hope you will make your own posts too, tagging and/or hashtagging us. One favor we do ask is that we like for you to be very careful about posting photos of our faculty ... keep your camera on the students! As former dancers, the faculty tends to dislike anything but the most flattering shots :)
