GOD’S WONDERFUL WORK Genesis 1-2 “InthebeginningGodcreatedtheheavenandtheearth” (Gen.1:1).Ofthe23,214 OldTestamentverses,thisiswithoutdoubtthemostimportant. First ofall,itservesas afactualsummaryverse.In10short,simple,butsublimewordsweareinformed concerningtheWHEN,WHO,HOW,andWHATofallthings. “Inthebeginning.” That’stheWHEN! “God.” That’stheWHO!

6 “Created.” That’stheHOW! Allthings, “theheavenandtheearth.” That’stheWHAT! TheonlyquestionnotansweredinthisfirstverseistheWHYofallthings.would lateranswerthatquestion: “TheheavensdeclarethegloryofGod,andtheshowethHishandiwork” (Psa.19:1). Secondly, Gen.1:1isacorrectiveverse,foritrefutesmanyfalseismstoday.Itdenies bothpolytheism(thebeliefinmany)andatheism(thebeliefinnogod).The grievouserrorsofpantheism,evolutionism,materialism,andfatalismarealsosoundly condemned. Thus,theveryfirstverseinGenesisgivesusthe ofCreation,whilethe remaining30versesprovideuswiththe chronology ofCreation.Inanutshellweare clearlyinformedthatinsixdaystheAlmightyGodcreatedallthings,fromelectronsto galaxies,fromdandelionstodinosaurs,andfromtoAdam! ButmightyCreationwasnottheend,onlythemeanstosomethingevenmore wonderful.God’sworkdayschedulenowgiveswaytoHisweddingdayschedule. Watchcarefully,forherecomesthebride! THE AGONY OF ADAM IN THE GARDEN Genesis 3 Whatadifferenceadaycanbring!Genesischapter2endedsobeautifullyand blissfully.Earth’sfirstbrideandgroomwereseenwithhandsandheartsperfectlyknit together,strollingtowardEden’smagnificentsunset.Whataplaceforahoneymoon! Thesights,sounds,andsensationsofthatglorioushourcanscarcelybeimaginedby theirpresentdaysonsanddaughters.Perhapstheywereserenadedbythemusicof .CertainlytheyknewthemajestyofanunfallenCreation.Allthesplendorand serenityofthatpast,however,wouldsoonend,fortwohatefulandhorrible eventstookplacewhichimmediatelyandeternallychangedthings,bothfortheCreator andforHiscreatures. ThefirstevilactionmayhaveoccurredbetweenGen.2and3,whilethesecond definitelytranspiredinthemiddleofchapter3.Whatwasthenatureofthesetwin tragedies?Bothhavetodowithoneword,theworstofallwords—SIN!Thevery soundcarrieswithitthehissofthe. InIsa.14andEzek.28wereadofanunholyandunsuccessfulattemptbyapowerful angelicbeingtotakeoverGod’sthrone.wasthatangelwhothenbecamethe .Thiswastheheinouscrimewhichmayhavehappenedbetweenthesecondand thirdchaptersofGen.3enticingAdamandEvetodowhathehadpreviouslydone— disobeyGod! 7 Afinalthought.EverythingthatGodhaseverdone,orisdoingtoday,oreverwilldo, canbeplacedinoneoftwocategories.TheseareHisworkin Creation, andHiswork in Redemption. Gen.1and3providetheaccountofHisworkinCreation.Butwiththe adventofman’ssininGen.3,GodrolledupHisspiritualsleevesandbeganHis second—andgreatest—work,thatofredemption!Thatworkstillgoesontoday! THE STORY OF TWO SONS Genesis 4 “AndAdamknewEvehiswife;andsheconceived,andboreCain” (Gen.4:1).Whata familytheywere!Therewouldneverbeanotherlikeit.Eachmemberhadcometolive onthisearthbyadifferentmethod.Thehusbandsuddenlyappearedwithoutfatheror mother.Thewifehadnomother.Butthencametheirson,history’sfirstbabytobe bornthroughtheunionofbothfatherandmother.CenturieslatertheCreatorwould chooseHisfourthandfinalmethodofbringinganindividualtothis.Thistimea Babewouldbebornwithoutahumanfather! ButtheunityofAdam’suniquefamilywouldnotlast.Soonafourthmemberwas added,anotherbabyboy.Beforethestoryendedtheoldestsonwould,withoutreason orremorse,brutallymurderhisyoungerbrother! Apreviouspassage(Gen.2)recordedtheoftheworld’soriginalwedding.This passage(Gen.4)relatesthebitternessofearth’sfirstfuneral.Fromthispointon,the secondceremonywouldbeconductedbythesonsanddaughtersofAdamfarmore oftenthanthefirstceremony. THE DAY BEFORE DESTRUCTION Genesis 5:1-6:8 “ThisisthebookofthegenerationsofAdam” (Gen.5:1). Theworld’soldestandmostunusualobituarycolumnisrecordedinGen.5.Tennames appearonthelist.Thecolumnisuniquebecauseoftheagesofthenineandthe agelessnessofthetenth.Theaveragelifespanoftheninewas912years.Butthe tenthneverdied! “ByfaithEnochwastranslatedthatheshouldnotseedeath” (Heb.11:5).Asthe obituaryrecordcloseswereadofthebirthofEnoch’sgreatgrandson,wholater becameevenmorefamousthanhisgreatgrandfather.Theboy’snamewasNoah.In 1983ABCtelevisedacontroversialmovietitled, TheDayAfter, afictitiousaccountof eventsafteranuclearholocaust.Genesis6couldrightfullybetitled, TheDayBefore, foritprovidesafactualaccountofhumanactivitiesjustpriortotheGreatFlood. “And GODsawthatthewickednessofmanwasgreatintheearth,andthatevery imaginationofthethoughtsofhisheartwasonlyevilcontinually”(Gen.6:5). Sothedivinedecisionthathadtobemade,wasmade:theearthwouldbedestroyed byaworldwideflood!Butwouldallmankindperish?Couldanyonepossiblysurvive? 8 No,andyes!No,allmankindwouldnotperish.Yes,onemanandhisfamilywouldbe saved. “ButNoahfoundgraceintheeyesoftheLord” (v.8). A FAMILY AND A FLOOD Genesis 6:9-9:29 “AndtheLordsaiduntoNoah,‘Comethouandallthyhouseintotheark’”(Gen.7:1). Howsimplethesolutionbackthen.PhysicalsalvationfromtheFloodjudgmentcame aboutthroughaship.Howsimplethesolutiontoday.Eternalsalvationfromthefire judgmentcomesaboutthroughacross. InthemidstoftheFloodwearetold: “AndGodrememberedNoahandeverylivingthing,andallthecattlethatwaswithhim intheark” (8:1). Howwonderfulthelittlephrase, “Godremembered.” AsHedidforthisdedicated patriarch,Hewouldlaterdoforadyingthief :“AndhesaiduntoJesus,‘Lord,remember mewhenthoucomestintothykingdom’.AndJesussaiduntohim,VerilyIsayunto thee,Todayshaltthoubewithmeinparadise” (Luke23:4243). OnefinalthoughtabouttheGreatFlood.Thereare774,745wordsintheBible.God spoketwoparticularwordstoNoahatthattimewhich,bythemselves,summarizethe remaining774,743.Onewordwasspokenbefore,andtheotherfollowingtheFlood. Theonebefore: “AndtheLORDsaiduntoNoah,‘Comethouandallthyhouseintothe ark’” (Gen.7:1).Theoneafter: “AndGodspakeuntoNoah,saying,‘Goforthofthe ark’” (8:1516). Hereitis—theScripturessummarizedbytwowords!Tothe sinner, thewordis Come — “Come intothearkofsafety.” Tothesaint,thewordis Go —“Go yeintoalltheworld.” THE TRAGEDY OF A TOWER Genesis 10-11 Somanydifferentkindsoflanguage,spokenbysomanydifferentkindsofpeople! That’sthewayitistoday.Butthiswasnotalwaysthecase.Peopleonceenjoyeda commonoralunitywhichwouldamazeustoday.Whathappenedtochangethis?Itall begansometimeaftertheGreatFlood.Afabulousandfeverishreligiousprojectwas begunattheplainofShinaronthebanksoftheRiver,nearwhereancient Babylonwouldlaterbebuilt.TheShinarprojectincludedbothacityandatower.The rebelarchitectbehindallthiswas,areligiousapostate,whowasagrandsonof Noahhimself.SomuchconcerningtheWHATandWHO.ButnowfortheWHYofthe 9 project.ArcheologicalfindingsstronglyindicatetheTowerofBabelwasinrealitya templegivenovertotheworshipofthestars.Listentotheactualwordsastakenfrom thatdedicationaddress. “Andtheysaid,Goto,letusbuildusacityandatower,whosetopmayreachunto heaven;andletusmakeusaname,lestwebescatteredabroaduponthefaceofthe wholeearth” (Gen.11:4). Notethepronouns“we”and“us”appearfivetimesinthisonesentence.Thiswas nothinglessthananarrogantandunholyattempttoexcludetheCreatorandexaltthe creature.Butitdidn’twork.GodseparatedtheBabelworkersinsmallgroupsby alteringthestructureoftheircommonlanguage.Thisdivineactiondirectlyanswersthe questionofpresentdaylanguagedifferences.TheBabeljudgmentalsoindirectly answersasecondquestion,forashumanbeingsbegantomarryinsmallergroups,the geneticvariationsleadingtothedistinctivecharacteristicsofskincolor,height,hair texture,facialfeatures,etc.woulddevelopswiftly. FATHER OF THE FAITHFUL (Part One) Genesis 12-16 WhatevercouldhavehappenedtooneofUr’sleadingcitizens?Notonlyhadhe forsakentheworshipofthegoddessforthatofaninvisiblemonotheisticBeing, buthewasactuallyplanningtoleavethisfamous,fruitfulcityforaforsaken,faroff country.HadAbramtakenleaveofhissenses?Morethanoneeyebrowmusthave raisedasthefuturefatherofthefaithfulstartedhispilgrimagetowardCanaan.Hewas 75yearsoldatthetime.Marvelousandmysteriousthingswouldbefallhimduringthe next100yearsbeforehisdeath.Hewouldwinawarwithasmallbandofservants, fatherachildthroughabarrenwife,entertainangelsunaware,andbevisitedbyGod Himself. TheimportanceofAbraham’slifecannotbeoverestimated.Infact,thevery relationshipbetweenheavenandearthchangeddrasticallywiththeadventofAbraham. Priortothis,asseeninGen.111,Godhadused,asitwere,theshotgunmethodinHis approachtotheworld,dealinginageneralwaywithnations,peoples,andentire civilizations.Butbeginninginchapter12,Helaiddowntheshotgunandemployeda rifle,trainingthesightinononemanandhisimmediatedescendants.Or,touse anotheranalogy,withAbraham,heaven’sfloodlightgavewaytoabrilliantspotlight! FATHER OF THE FAITHFUL (Part Two) Genesis 17-25 HisparentsfirstnamedhimatbirthinthecityofUr.Godrenamedhimatage99in thelandofCanaan.FromAbram(“honoredfather”)toAbraham(“founderofnations”). Quiteadifference!Hiswifealsowasrenamed.NolongerwouldshebeknownasSarai (contentious)butnow,Sarah(aprincess).Thedivinetimingwasperfect,forinless thanayearthefounderofnationsandthebarrenprincesswouldconceiveandbear theirfirstchild—Isaac. 10 Wonderofwonders!God’spromisehadcometrue.Thereawaited,however,onefinal testforAbraham.IttookplaceonMountMoriah,rightoutsideancientJerusalem. Here,obeyingthecommandofGod,AbrahampreparedtoofferupHisonlyson.But thescheduledexecutionwasstayedatthelastmoment.Asubstitutewasfound.God whohadpreviouslychangedAbraham’sandSarah’snames,chosethisoccasiontogive HisobedientservantanewnameforHimself: jireh, “theLordwillprovide!”So HedidwithAbraham.SoHewillwithus,ifweobeyHim. Twentycenturieslater,anotherFatherledHisonlySonupsimilarmountainslopesfor theidenticalpurpose.Thistime,however,therewasnolastminutereprieve. “ForGodsolovedtheworld,thathegavehisonlybegottenSon,thatwhosoever believethinhimshouldnotperish,buthaveeverlastinglife” (John3:16). THE CHILD OF THE COVENANT (Isaac) Genesis 25-27 In1990B.C.,Abrahamdied.ThemanofGodwasgonebutthemissionofGodwould goon.ThetorchwouldpassontohissonIsaac,thentohisgrandsonJacob,and finallytohis12greatgrandsons,particularlytoJoseph. Inadditiontodeathandtaxes,athirdthingiscertain.Themessageandmissionof Godwillbeheardandexperiencedaslongastheworldstands.Oneoftheprimary purposesforthewritingoftheOldTestamentwastopreparethewayforthecoming Messiah. ThelifeofIsaacservestoillustratethreefactorsthatwouldbefulfilledbythe prophesiedSavior. ThefirstwasIsaac’ssupernaturalbirth.Hewasconceivedbyanoldbarrenwoman. Jesuswasconceivedbyayoungvirgingirl. ThesecondfactorwasIsaac’sobedience.Heagreedtobeofferedupbyhisfather. TwothousandyearslaterChristwoulddemonstratethatsameobediencetoHis HeavenlyFather. ThethirdfactorwasIsaac’smarriage.Hewascontenttoawaitthecomingofhisbride fromaforeignland,asChristinheavenawaitsHisbride,theChurch. THE JOURNEYS OF JACOB (Part One) Genesis 25; 27-31 Theyoungersondefinitelyhadaspiritualedgeoverhisslightlyoldertwinbrother. Bothparentscouldeasilyseethat.Buttherewasadeceitfultraitabouthimthat troubledthem.Oh,well,perhapshewouldgrowoutofit.Afterall,GodHimselfhad predictedtheolderwouldservetheyounger.Butastheyearswentby,thefather apparentlyforgotaboutthispromiseandattemptedtogivethefamilyblessing(a 11 spiritualresponsibility)tohiseldestson.Thisonlytriggeredmoredeceitinthefamily, asbothmotherandyoungersonsuccessfullytrickedthefather,resultinginanangry vowfromtheoldertomurderhisyoungertwin!Fewsoapoperascoulddesignamore twistedplot.TheparentsinthistruestoryofcoursewereIsaacandRebekah.Their twosonswereEsauandJacob.Tosaytheleast,thiswasnotthehappiestoffamilies. Whencorrectiveactionwasfinallytakenbythefatheritprovedtoolate,forEsau marriedanunbelieverandbecameadesertwanderer.Jacobwouldeventuallyfare muchbetter,butnotbeforeexperiencingmanypainfultrials,themajorityofwhich wereselfinflicted. THE JOURNEYS OF JACOB (Part Two) Genesis 32-35; 38 Therewasnodoubtaboutit.Theagingpatriarchwaswalkingdifferently.Hiswives, children,andservantsallagreed.Whattheycouldnotagreeonwasjusthowhiswalk hadchanged.Perhapsitcouldbebestdescribedasaconfidentlimp.Butwasthat possible?Howcouldhepossessanyconfidencewhatever?Hadheforgottenthatan angryEsauandhis400menwouldcatchupwiththeirlittlecamptodayandgeteven forpastinjustices?WouldanyoneinJacob’sgrouplivetoseeanothersunset?They wouldindeed—everyoneofthem.Esau’sattitudewouldbedrasticallyalteredfrom thatoffiercerevengetofriendlyreunion. Noneofthefrightenedpeopleinthatearlymorningcampcouldknowanyofthis,or thattheirsurvivalthatdaywasdirectlyconnectedtoJacob’slimp.Itallbeganatthe BrookJabbokwhereJacobandGodengagedinanallnightwrestlingmatch.The results?Bothanewwalkandanewname.JacobnowwouldbeknownasIsraeland theonewhowrestledwithGod. JOSEPH: THE FIRST YEARS Genesis 37; 39-44 Justhowlongtheirconsciencestroubledthemisnotknown.Butsurelythe10brothers spentmorethanonesleeplessnight,torturedbymemoriesofthepast.Sellingtheir youngerbrotherintocruelEgyptianslaverywasbadenough.Thatcrime,however, hadbeencompoundedbylyingtotheirfather.Theoldmanwasledtobelievethata wildanimalhadattackedandkilledhisbelovedson,Joseph. Couldthatevileventinthepasteverbeforgotten?Thiswouldproveimpossible,forin thenearfutureall10brotherswouldbeconfrontedwiththeircrimeinatotally unexpectedandunpleasantmanner.Besureyoursinwillfindyouout! This,inanutshell,isthestoryofJosephandhis10brothers.NootherOldTestament characterinmattersofpersonalpurityandunjustsufferingssoforeshadowstheperson ofChristasdoesJoseph.Buthissufferings,likethoseofChrist,servedmerelyto preparehimfor “theglorythatshouldfollow” (1Peter1:11).InonesimpledayJoseph waspromotedfromaprisonerinEgypttothePrimeMinisteroverEgypt. 12 JOSEPH: THE FINAL YEARS Genesis 45-50 Josephcouldscarcelybelievehiseyes.Buthowcouldhedenywhathesaw?There theystood,all10ofthem.Howlonghaditbeen?Hismindquicklyflashedbacksome 23yearstothesmallCanaanitetownofDothan.Thatwasthedaytheysoldhiminto slavery.Watchingthemnow,hefeltabsolutelyno,butawe,ashethoughtofa mysteriousheexperiencedasaboy.Ithadprobablybeenamistaketelling themaboutit. “Andhesaiduntothem,Hear,Iprayyou,thisdreamwhichIhavedreamed:For, behold,wewerebindingsheavesinthefield,and,lo,mysheafarose,andalsostood upright;and,behold,yoursheavesstoodroundabout,andmadeobeisancetomy sheaf” (Gen.37:67). Whowouldhavethoughtthedreamwouldbefulfilledunderthepresentcircumstances? Butheretheywere,subduedand,nodoubt,somewhathungry,requestingfoodina foreignland.Theironyofcoursewastheydidnotrecognizehim.Butthen,howcould they?Intheirmindshewaseitherdeadbythistime,orwasservingasaslave somewhere. Yes,hewouldrevealhimselftothem,butnotyet.Thefollowingfewbecamea nightmareforJoseph’s10brothers,astheyweremadetosweat,fret,andregrettheir pastcrime.Finally,theagonywasoverandtheannouncementwasmade:“Don’tyou recognizeme?IamJoseph,youryoungerbrother!”Neveronetoharboragrudge, Josephwouldontwooccasionsreassurehisbrothers,stillplaguedbyguilt: “Nowthereforebenotgrieved,norangrywithyourselves,thatyesoldmehither:for Goddidsendmebeforeyoutopreservelife” (Gen.45:5). “Butasforyou,yethoughtevilagainstme;butGodmeantituntogood,tobringto pass,asitisthisday,tosavemuchpeoplealive”(Gen.50:20). WHAT YOU NEED TO DO ABOUT THE BOOK OF GENESIS

Okay,somuchforGenesisbackthen.ButmylifeisrightNOW!Istheretheslightest connection? “Nowallthesethingshappeneduntothemforensamples:andtheyarewritten forouradmonition,uponwhomtheendsoftheworldarecome” (1Cor.10:11). PAUSEANDPONDER: ● Adam(andyou)didnotevolvefromsomemuddyglob,butwascreated bythemightyGod! 13 ● And,mostamazingly,both(Adamandyou)werenotonlymade by the handofGod,butintheveryimage of God.Weightywordsindeed! ● HowglorioustorealizethesameblessedHolySpiritwhoonce “moved uponthefaceofthewaters: (1:2),nowactuallydwellswithinthehearts ofbelievers(1Cor.3:16)! ● WenotethatasHiscreativeworkwaswellplannedandperfect,soitis withHisredemptiveworkinregardtous.Thiswonderfultruthisdeclared inmanybiblicalpassages.Hereisbutone: “ItisGodthatgirdethmewithstrength,andmakethmyway perfect” (Psa.18:32). ● AccordingtoGen.1:26,Godmadea“takecharge”creature(man), assigninghimtoserveaskingovercreation,havingdominionoverall nature.But,duetohissin(3:17),hewasdethronedfromthislofty position.ThebookofHebrewsaptlysummarizesthissadsituation: “Thouhastallthingsinsubjectionunderhisfeet.Forinthathe putallinsubjectionunderhim,heleftnothingthatisnotputunder him.Butnowweseenotyetallthingsputunderhim” (Heb.2:8). ● Butnottoworry,wearypilgrim,fortheultimaterainbowofredemption suddenlyburstsfrombehindthedarkcloudsofsinintogloriouslight,as seenintheverynextverse: “ButweseeJesus,whowasmadealittlelowerthantheangelsfor thesufferingofdeath,crownedwithgloryandhonour;thatheby thegraceofGodshouldtastedeathforeveryman” (Heb.2:9). ● Inotherwords,Jesuscame,notjusttosaveus,buttorestoreouroriginal destiny,namely,toruleoverallthingswithHim! Infact,lestweforget,GodinstructedJohntoendthefinalbookinthe Biblebyremindingusofourfuturereignofrighteousnesswiththe ! “TheyshallbepriestsofGodandofChrist,andshallreignwithhim athousandyears” (Rev.20:6). ● So,whatelsecanwelearnfromthelifeofhistory’sfirsthuman?Fivefast facts: 1. AsAdamturnedfromGod,so have we —“allwelikesheephave goneastray” (Isa.53:6). 14 2. AsAdamcamebacktoGod,so can we —“Comenow,andletus reasontogether,saiththeLORD:thoughyourbeasscarlet, theyshallbeaswhiteassnow;thoughtheyberedlikecrimson, theyshallbeaswool” (Isa.1:18). 3. AsAdamthenworshippedGod,so should we —“Butthehour cometh,andnowis,whenthetrueworshippersshallworshipthe Fatherinspiritandintruth:fortheFatherseekethsuchtoworship him” (John4:23). 4. AsAdamlaterdied,so must we —“Andasitisappointeduntomen oncetodie”(Heb.9:27). 5. AsAdamwilleventuallygiveanaccountbeforeGod,so shall we — “ForwemustallappearbeforethejudgmentseatofChrist;that everyonemayreceivethethingsdoneinhisbody,accordingto thathehathdone,whetheritbegoodorbad” (2Cor.5:10). ● Noah,Abraham,Isaac,andJacobwere,forthemostpart,pilgrims. Thereisavastdifferencebetweenapilgrimandahomesteader.Thefirst involvesajourney;thesecondspeaksofapermanentdwelling. ● BothOldTestamentandNewTestamentbelieversaredescribedas pilgrims,butneverashouseholders: 1. —“Thesealldiedinfaith,nothavingreceivedthe promises,buthavingseenthemafaroff,andwerepersuadedof them,andembracedthem,andconfessedthattheywerestrangers andpilgrimsontheearth” (Heb.11:13). 2. —“Dearlybeloved,Ibeseechyouasstrangers andpilgrims,abstainfromfleshlylusts,whichwaragainstthe” (1Peter2:11).

● Sowhat?Sothis!Itassurespresentdaypilgrimsofthefollowingin regardtotheirjourneys: 1. WhereGodleads—Hefeeds! 2. WhereGodguides—Heprovides! 3. WhereGoddirects—Heprotects! ● Needmoreproof? “Wherebyaregivenuntousexceedinggreatandpreciouspromises:that bytheseyemightbepartakersofthedivinenature,havingescapedthe corruptionthatisintheworldthroughlust” (2Peter1:4). 15 Herearebutafewofthesepreciouspromisestopilgrims: 1. “Heleadethmeinthepathsofrighteousness…” (Psa.23:3). 2. “Ibeingintheway,theLordledme…” (Gen.24:27). 3. “ThouleddestthypeoplelikeaflockbythehandofMosesand Aaron” (Psa.77:20). 4. “AndIwillbringtheblindbyawaythattheyknewnot;Iwilllead theminpathsthattheyhavenotknown:Iwillmakedarknesslight beforethem,andcrookedthingsstraight.ThesethingswillIdo untothem,andnotforsakethem” (Isa.42:16). 5. “Hecallethhisownsheepbyname,andleadeththem…” (John10:3). 6. “FortheLambwhichisinthemidstofthethroneshallfeedthem, andshallleadthemuntolivingfountainsofwaters:andGodshall wipeawayalltearsfromtheireyes” (Rev.7:17). AclosingthoughtregardingGod,bureaucracy,andglobalwarming— CouldyoupossiblyimaginethesituationthatmighthavedevelopedhadtheCreator beenconfrontedbytheEnvironmentalProtectionAgency(E.P.A.)justpriortoHis creation?Consider— GodcreatedtheHeavenandtheEarth.Quickly,Hewasfacedwithaclassactionsuit forfailuretofileanenvironmentalimpactstatement.Hewasgrantedatemporary permitfortheheavenlypartoftheproject,butwasstymiedwithaceaseanddesist orderfortheearthlypart. Appearingatthehearing,GodwasaskedwhyHebeganHisearthlyprojectinthefirst place.HerepliedthatHejustlikedtobecreative! ThenGodsaid, “Lettherebelight” andimmediatelytheofficialsdemandedtoknow howthelightwouldbemade.Wouldtherebestripmining?Whataboutthermal pollution?Godexplainedthatthelightwouldcomefromahugeballoffire.Godwas grantedpermissiontomakelight,assumingthatnosmokewouldresultfromtheballof fire,andtoconserveenergy,thelightwouldhavetobeouthalfofthetime.God agreedandsaidHewouldcallthelight“Day” andthedarkness,“Night.” Theofficials repliedthattheywerenotinterestedinsemantics. Godsaid, “LettheEarthbringforthgreenherbandsuchasmayhaveseed.” The EnvironmentalProtectionAgencyagreedsolongasnativeseedwasused.ThenGod said, “Letthewatersbringforththecreepingcreatureshavinglife;andthefowlthat

16 mayflyovertheEarth.” Officialspointedoutthatthiswouldrequiretheapprovalof theGameandFishCommissioncoordinatedwiththeWildlifeFederationSociety. EverythingwasokayuntilGodsaidHewantedtocompletetheprojectinsixdays. Officialssaidthatitwouldtakeatleast100daystoreviewtheapplicationandimpact statement.Afterthattherewouldbeapublichearing.Thentherewouldbe10to12 monthsbefore… Atthispoint,Godcreatedhell!
