Since it was launched in 2018, the project "Histories in Motion" has been researching memory practices, historical cultures, and historical learning in Germany’s migration society. In a joint project with the University of Hildesheim Foundation, the Freie Universität , the Georg-Eckert-Institute in and University, interviews were carried out with a variety of actors for empirical studies, providing new perspectives on current historical-cultural negotiation processes. Our interview partners represent four different fields of studies: teaching and school-based learning, memorial sites and museums, educational media and publishing and non-formal educational programs (NGOs). Based on this interview material, we will discuss the following topics, among others: - How does one define a collectively significant history, in the context of a diverse migration society? - What are the current challenges to historical learning in a diverse society? - How are issues of diversity, belonging, exclusion, and separation integrated into historical education? For further information, see: https://geschichten-in-bewegung.hosting.uni-hildesheim.de/ We will present our answers to these questions and the results of our research during our closing conference on March 1-2, 2021. The presentation will take place within a framework of lectures, panel discussions, and workshops, and will include the opportunity to engage in conversation with invited experts and our practice partners about the topics at hand.
