The Location Located in the heart of eastern , Paderborn (population 130,000) is a city steeped in tradition yet with an eye to the future. Its history dates back 1,200 years. One can still marvel at the architectural beauty of the city’s cathedral, the Ottonian-Salic palace or St. Bartholemew’s chapel. Still, Paderborn’s role as an important commercial center, today, can be seen in its 20th century architecture, impressive highways, industrial estates, and polished residential areas. It is an ideal site for LHU students to consider for their study abroad experience.

The University The University of Paderborn was founded in 1972 and today maintains a student population of 17,000. The University of Paderborn firmly believes that these international contacts add to the international flair of the university.

Health Insurance All students are required to maintain a health insurance policy that will provide coverage while abroad and for the entire duration of this period. U.S. insurance policies are not accepted in Germany; therefore, you need to take out an additional German public or private insurance once you have arrived in Paderborn – there are two public insurance companies on campus, that students can choose to sign up with: the Techniker Krankenkasse (http://www.tk.de/tk/english/610312 ) and the AOK (https://aok-on.de/studierende/foreign-students-information.html).

Costs of public insurances in Germany typically amount to about 80 EUR per month. German private insurances (for example Mawista: https://www.mawista.com/en/ ) tend to be slightly cheaper, however, typically do not provide the same extensive cover such as a public insurance.

So, how do I get started? Simply come by the Center for Global Engagement to pick up an application form. Remember! Applications are due March 1 for the fall term and October 1 for the spring term.
