Journey through a hero’s adventure with music from The Hobbit, explore a magical land with tunes featured in 2003’s Peter Pan, and listen to music from the 2010 version of the classic Alice in Wonderland. Join folks from Just Games for a Magic: The Gathering What colors will you use to fill in this picture? Workshop at The Strong. Based in Rochester, Just Games is a community-focused store carrying a wide range of role-playing board and card games and accessories. Participants will explore the world of National Toy Hall of Fame inductee Magic: The Gathering alongside experts in the game and take home a deck of their own. This program is intended for children ages 10 to 15. A parent or guardian must accompany child but their admission will be free with child registration. No experience necessary. Sensory-Friendly Sunday

Enjoy the museum in a quiet setting designed for children with special sensory, developmental, or physical needs. Explore exhibits in a comfortable environment featuring fewer guests, extra visual safety signage, light and sound reduction, and designated quiet areas. The Strong Board of Trustees Welcomes New Member Alex Del Monte, president of the DelMonte Hotel Group, joined The Strong’s Board of Trustees this past winter. A graduate of the George Washington University School of Business, Del Monte is leading the development efforts for his company’s Local Non-Profit Supports vision to grow and diversify its portfolio. His efforts have helped the company’s portfolio grow to 16 facilities and earn Adaptive Play at The Strong the Arc of Monroe New York 2019 Business Partner of the Year award. Del Monte resides in Rochester. This past October, the non-profit group Endless Highway teamed up with The Strong for its first Adaptive Day of Play for youth and families living with physical disabilities. More than 90 people came to the museum to participate in the event, which was aimed at creating more inclusive family experiences. Arcade Mad Dash The Strong Grows Only one player can win! Recent additions include adult coloring books from the 1960s that feature President John F. Kennedy and former Soviet Premier Nikita Khruschev. Other additions include modern coloring books featuring powerful women, such as Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. The Strong’s coloring book collection now boasts more than 300 examples.

“People have expressed their creativity by adding color to shapes and images for much more than 100 years, and coloring books have provided educational and calming benefits to children and adults alike,” says Curator Nicolas Ricketts. “These additions to the museum’s collections allow us to tell a more complete story about the influence of this classic plaything.” Jump into the game! Celebrate the history and evolution of arcade amusements in all their beeping, blipping, vibrant glory in the Arcade Escape exhibit at The Strong. Play your way through gaming history—from classic machines to some of today’s most modern redemption games—and explore how the arcade space has changed over the decades. Challenge yourself on redemption games such as Skee Ball, Hoop Fever, Whack N’ Win, and the new, six-player Hot Wheels: King of the Road. Win tickets and use them to collect fun prizes. Try your hand at historic video arcade machines including Discs of Tron, Sinistar, Enjoy a special Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, G-LOC: Air Battle, and NBA Jam.
