Regional Data of Kayah State

(1) Background History

In the year 1200 or AD 1838, U Thiri first founded Thiridaw Village. ‘Daw’ means ‘Village’ in the Kayah Language. It is founded near Taung Kwe and Shwe Taung. So it is called Loikhaw in the Shan Langauge. ‘Loi’ means ‘Hill’ and ‘Khaw’ means ‘Separating’. The name ‘Loikhaw’ then changed into ‘’. On the 1st waxing of Kason, the Myanmar year 1250 or on 20th, 1888, Kandaryawadi Chief of former times, Sao Lawi, founded a great palace in Loikaw. The Kayini State such as Kandaryawadi, Baw La Kae and Kyal Phoe Gyi, marked by the British Government was included as the name of Kayini State in the Union of Myanmar according to the constitution of Myanmar in 1947. However, according to the rectification of constitution in 1951, the Kayini State was officially called the Kayah State on 15, January, 1952.

(A) Location and Size Kayah State is surrounded by (northern), (eastern), (western and sourthern). The boundary length of Kayah State and Thailand is about (138)miles. Location and size are as follows.
