I am a parent governor and have recently joined the Governing Body. I am the Headteacher of Clifton Primary School in Hull and have been involved in education for the past 13 years. I also work as a moderator for the local authority and support a range of schools in Hull with their school improvement work. I believe that all children are capable of great things and that the role of a school is to remove barriers to learning for all children and to inspire them to become life-long learners. I am also a member of the Governing Body of Clifton Primary School, Broadacre Primary School and the Hull SCITT.

I have 3 children, all boys, one in Year 7 at Grammar School, one in Year 5 at Minster School and I am currently a stay at home mum looking after a very lively 18 month old. I became a parent governor at Minster School 2 years ago because I wanted to help make a difference at the school and to be able to put the parents point of view across. As a qualified nursery nurse (NNEB) I have experience working in early years, both in nursery and foundation stage, and have a particular interest in this area as well as experience of working with children with special needs. As well as being on the governing body I am also 1 of the 4 women team responsible for putting on a school musical production for the last two years, and hopefully again this year, helping raise money for the school.

I am a parent governor, with two daughters currently attending Beverley Minster CE Primary School. I have a degree in Behavioural Sciences, with a keen interest in education, child development and mental health. I have worked as a group worker in a therapeutic children’s residential setting, where I have seen children thrive despite their early upbringing. I have also been a project worker for a children’s charity which focused on providing activities and opportunities for disadvantaged children. While working in this role, I witnessed the growth of self-esteem and aspiration as children took on different responsibilities within their neighbourhood. I took time out of employment once my children were born, to be a full time stay at home mum, but was eager to get back to work once they both began school. I currently work at Beverley Minster Primary School as a lunchtime supervisor and a teaching assistant. It is fantastic to be able to see the school from the perspective of both parent and employee.

Originally from Middlesbrough I came to Hull in in 1969. I am a retired Headteacher having taught in Hull and the East Yorkshire for over 36 years, in both the primary and secondary sectors. I am a member of Beverley Minster where I served as a Warden for over 9 years. I have been a governor in a number of schools for over 30 years.

Being a Governor at Beverley Minster Primary School enables me to maintain my interest in education and support the school in the ever-changing demands it faces. I feel privileged to serve in a Church of England School that has such a well-developed Christian ethos and strives to reach such high educational standards.

My three grandchildren have attended Beverley Minster Primary and have been happy at the school valuing the education and the wider curriculum opportunity that it offers.

I have been a Governor of the school since 2010 and was elected Chair of the Governing body in 2015. I have just been re-elected for a second term as Chair. I am married to Sarah, we are both born and raised in Beverley. We have two children, Grace, who has been through Minster School and is now in Year 10 at Beverley High School, and Daisy who is in Year 2. I work as a Regional Manager for a specialist vehicle manufacturer with our primary focus being on vehicles for disability use, providing the less-able with solutions to allow them the freedom the rest of us take for granted. I became a Governor in order that I could ensure my children receive the education they deserve, and have since been part of several major decision-making processes, including employing Mrs Hatter as our Headteacher. I chair the Finance Committee and now have an understanding of the budgetary pressures primary schools find themselves under. Since becoming a Governor I have completed many training sessions delivered by the Local authority. These have all added to my knowledge and hopefully made me a better Governor for the good of all our children.
