HOLLYWOOD PORTRAITS Exhibition by Cel ebr i ty photogr apher Isabel Snyder
The fi r s t Ger man showcase of Swiss photographer Isabel Snyder, will run from September 12, 2002, through the end of November, at the Andr eas Baumgartl gallery i n Munich. Visitors will see over 60 exceptional photographs, in an exhibition entitled “ “Hollywood Por tr ai ts ”. The s how, which is an expansion of work shown at the Mus eum ‘Casor ella”, during the 54th International Filmfestival in Locarno, features an impressive collection of portrait photogr aphy, and bl ack and whi te nudes .
The collection, is an exciting mi x of some H ollywood’s biggest star s. Mrs, Snyder’s lens captures images of Denzel Washington, Dennis Hopper, Halle Berry, Billy Bob T hornton, Donald Sutherland and Noel Gallagher as you’ve never seen them befor e. The pi ctur es , some s hown as single por tr ai ts , and s ome as Diptychs and T r i ptychs , in oversized pr i nts , create and dynami c an d unfor gettable i mpr ession.
Working up-close and per s onal with some of the bi ggest names in Hollywood for over a decade, Snyder’s camera has captured i mages that r eveal a s i de of her subjects that has never been seen before. With her unconventional appr oach to photogr aphy and a natur al appr eci ati on for the per s onalities she photographs, Snyder has captured movi e s tar magic, while offering a glimpse of unmasked i denti ti es .
With a gr eat sense for spontaneity and i mpr ovi s ati on she likes to explore feelings, emotions and situations rather than confining her subject to a s tr i ctl y conceptual vision.
The official opening of the s how will be on September 13th, 2002, a “pr i vate vi ew” will be hel d for a limited ci r cl e of guest on September 12th, 2002. The ar ti s t will personally appear at the openi ng of the show.

Isabel Snyder - Biography
If you love cel ebr i ti es , the movi es and the gl amor ous world of Hollywood, you have pr obabl y seen her work. Isabel Snyder’s images of the mos t influential and i nter es ti ng peopl e i n the i ndus tr y have been featured i n countless prestigious magazines all around the wor l d.
The S wi ss native who has been calling Los Angeles her home for the l as t 10 years, is currently wor ki ng on several book projects about her famous subjects. Snyder, whose contr i buti on to her field was recently acknowledged as one of the mos t r espected photogr apher s of the year with a featur e i n Black & White magazine’s “Masters.” Snyder began her career In 1984 as a camer a assistant for art photogr apher Alex Kayser in New Yor k . But she s oon developed a name of her own with fashion photography for international magazines as VOGUE, ELLE and GRAZ I A. In 1990 she deci ded to focus on portrait photography, and the s ame year she moved to Los Angeles.
Isabel credits her diverse life exper i ence has having been extremely i nfl uenti al in shaping her view of the world and her work. European-born and r ai s ed, and currently par t of the Amer i can way-of-life, she al s o spent a two-year sojourn to South America, and thi s provided her with new i ns i ght into the human spirit. She utilizes this heightened i ntui ti on and s ens i bilities to enhance her portrayal of the per s onalities and celebrities she photogr aphs . It is the "di vi ne natur e of each individual" that Snyder strives to captur e through her lens.
Before focus i ng her interest full-time on photography, Isabel was teaching desi gn, theater and mus i c. As a r es ul t of this multi-facetted expos ur e to all things visual, she devel oped a s ophi s ti cated s ens e for style and a keen eye for her environment.
