DEAR FRIENDS,

Welcome to the 15th Anniversary of the Palm Beach International Film Festival. It is truly a privilege for me to celebrate this momentous accomplishment! I have been honored to have led this prestigious organization over the past six years and been involved since the beginning.

Reflecting back over the years we have played host to some amazing Hollywood legends including the late Michael Jackson, , Sylvester Stallone, Faye Dunaway, , Adrian Brody, Samuel L. Jackson, , Dennis Hopper, Selma Hayek and my personal favorite – Benji!

The festival has certainly evolved over the years from its humble beginnings to screening over 150 films from around the world from Jupiter to Boca Raton. In 2004 the festival became a competitive festival, in 2007 we became an YVONNE S. BOICE officially sanctioned Oscar® Night America partner and over the course of 15 Chair years we proudly donated over $1 million to local schools for film education.

As the years have progressed, and in these difficult economic times, change is eminent, as a result we are replacing our annual gala awards presentation with a festive beach side party and awards show that more aptly reflects Palm Beach County. The all new “Silver Screen Splash” will recognize film legends and honor their achievements while guests wine and dine beach side at the fabulous new The Omphoy Ocean Resort.

My heartfelt thanks go out to all of the dedicated volunteers, sponsors, staff and patrons who have been with us throughout the past 15 years; without you the festival would not have been possible. There are far too many to mention but it goes without saying I must mention three important people whom have all been there from day one, Commissioner Burt Aaronson, George Elmore and Randi Emerman. Without their vision, commitment to the industry and blood, sweat and sometimes tears – none of us would be here today to celebrate this momentous occasion! Thank you and now let’s celebrate!

Best Regards,

THE PALM BEACHES DEAR FRIENDS, Welcome to the 15th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival!

It is hard to believe 15 years have passed since I made a phone call to a friend in the film industry in . I asked him what we could do in Palm Beach County that would attract film makers. He replied that if we could supply the crews, the producers would come. That conversation led to the idea of a film festival that would raise money to educate students for jobs in the film industry. Since the Festival’s inception, more than $1 million has been donated to support the film programs at our local schools.

My fondest memories of the past 15 years have been those of the Annual Student Showcase of Films Awards Ceremony. Each year I see the passion, energy and excitement on the faces of the young people as they share their films and take their bows. I am reminded that this is why we have the Film BURT AARONSON Festival. This is why so many wonderful people work so hard to make the Film Co-Founder & Chairman Emeritus Festival happen.

It is my privilege to serve as Chair Emeritus of the Palm Beach International Film Festival. I would especially like to personally recognize the leadership of our Chair, Yvonne Boice. Her energy and enthusiasm inspire all of us. I also want to thank my fellow Board Members, our sponsors, our Festival staff, our volunteers and our movie lovers. Together, we have made that one small idea that I had 15 years ago grow into what is now considered one of the top 25 Film Festivals in the world. To each and every one of you – Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Sincerely,

DEAR FELLOW SUPPORTERS,

Fifteen years ago Commissioner Aaronson came to me with an idea to start a film festival that would raise money for local film students and to lure film makers to come to Palm Beach to make their films. I helped raise funds that first year and had no idea 15 years later I would still be involved as a board member.

I must recognize the hard work and support of everyone who has supported the festival with their financial contributions, artistic contributions and their hard work in producing the festival. The films I have seen and film makers I have met through the years have been engaging, thought-provoking, a bit controversial at times, but most importantly have entertained us all and kept us all going to the movies. GEORGE ELMORE The artistic and cultural impact on the community has been impres- Secretary and Treasurer sive; but as important has been the economic impact. Thousands of hotel rooms have been filled in the all important shoulder season; restaurants, shops and venues have benefited from the festival events and visiting film makers. But no one has been more impact- ed by the festival than the local film schools and film students. Hundreds of students have received valuable scholarships to study film and the arts courtesy of the film festival. Thousands of students have been exposed to , educational seminars and the all important one on one contact with film makers from around the world. Many of these students have gone on to work in the film industry and are coming back to Palm Beach County to show their works. That my friends, is why we started this festival and nothing thrills me more than to hear of their successes!

Our efforts over the past 15 years have paid off and it is now time to celebrate and recognize all the hard work everyone in this community has done to support this festival. Thank you all for 15 years!

DEAR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS,

Wow, hard to believe we are welcoming you to the 15th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival. Time flies when you are having fun! Having been a part of the festival for the past fifteen years I have been a part of history in this county. The past festivals have been exciting, surprising, stunning, challenging and sometimes very overwhelming!

One consistency over the years is the quality of the films from around the world we have screened at the festival. Since its inception, we have screened more than 1580 films – including 252 World Premiers – and have screened films from more than 65 countries. Many of these films have gone on to enjoy huge box office success, critical acclaim and world-wide distribution.

RANDI EMERMAN This year I am proud to say our total focus is on the films, the film- makers and their impact on our world. Our films will make you cry, Executive Director make you think, make you laugh and afford you an opportunity to learn about a culture or issue that you might not otherwise be aware of. From documentaries, to shorts to full feature films we have it all!

Speaking of having it all, our host hotel the fabulous The Omphoy Resort Hotel. What a wonderful host for this year’s festival. The staff and management of the hotel have gone out of their way to welcome us and make us all feel at home. Ironically, our first host hotel stood in this exact location – the Palm Beach Hilton. Talk about coming full circle!

I hope you enjoy the this year’s films, new parties, sponsors and venues and if you get the chance please take the time to thank the dedicated volunteers and staff who have worked so hard this year – I know nothing would be possible without their tireless efforts.

See you at the movies!
