• The school's intercollegiate athletic program was established in 1917 by Dean David Mackenzie as part of Junior College.

• Wayne State was a charter member of the Mid-American Conference in 1946.

• A student poll selected the name of "Tartars" for the school's teams in 1927. In 1999, the university changed the name to the "Warriors," due to a feeling that the Tartars name was dated.

• 570 Academic All-Americans

• 415 All-Americans (103 in the last 3 years)

• One of 25 defining moments in NCAA history was when WSU diver Darcia Schileru was the first woman to compete in an NCAA Championship in 1973.

• WSU is the only institution to turn down a bid to the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship. Radio • Signed an agreement with WDTK 1400 AM in the summer of 2002 for football and men's basketball -- have broadcast over 35 events on 1400 AM each of the last nine years and have an extension good through the 2014-15 school year • First radio contract began in 2002 • Contract has been extended through 2015 (AM1400 WDTK) • Games are available online for free

Podcasts and Blogs • Instituted podcasts (Internet audio) on the Web site in October 2009 – over 6,000 page hits on the podcast page in 16 months • Started live blogs at home football games in Sept. 2010 – averaged nearly 150 viewers per home football game

Warrior Daily • Initiated the "Warrior Daily" in August 2010 (a five-minute video each weekday on the Web site)

Live Streaming • Began Warrior All-Access in August 2010 after three years with B2 -- live video and audio streaming of all home volleyball, football and basketball games. Revenue stream for athletics as "tickets" are purchased either per game or on a monthly basis.

Comcast • Comcast Television has broadcast at least eight Warrior athletic events each school year for six of the last seven years (and the last five consecutive seasons) • Eight games televised yearly on Comcast, live throughout and

Can You Give Back One Hour? • The goal of this campaign is to ask for the average cost of in-state undergraduate tuition credit hour.

Club 36 • Focuses on raising funds to support women’s athletics initiatives and is culminated by ‘W’ Week, which is a week long celebration of women’s athletics at the end of the athletic season.
