18 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Status We are making visible progress at Stuttgart Central Station
Stuttgart Central Station
1997 realisation competition for Stuttgart central station The jury unanimously nominates the design by Ingenhoven Architects The new Stuttgart Main Station, which is rotated through 90˚ to the present terminus an runs at a depth of eleven meters, is the heart of the Rail Project Stuttgart-Ulm – It comprises a total of eight tracks at four central platforms, each of which is 420 m in length – Arched ceiling with the 28 cally columns – 27 glass “light eyes” that allow daylight down to platform level – Accessible station roof
Status
The lower part of the first three cally columns are concreted Start of the concreting of the first upper part of a cally column in 2017 The first platforms of the new Central Railway Station are already visible Finishing the ceiling for the new subway station
19 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Status Mastering the challenges faced by city-based construction projects
Construction in the city
Disposal – 8 Mio. tonnes construction waste from the Stuttgart city center – 12 Mio. tonnes construction waste from Fildern and the Neckar area – 50 percent of the construction waste is recyclable – Over 5.000 trains with construction waste deposed by the construction site logistics – A system of construction and logistic roads to relieve the Stuttgart city traffic
Noise and emission control – Monitoring of noise pollution and emissions – Initiate countermeasures
20 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Status More than 50 percent of the tunnel kilometers are already done
Anhydrite
The tunnels Cannstatt, Feuerbach, Ober-/Untertürkheim and Fildertunnel passes through anhydrite The tunnels are built with mining technique No rock swelling so far Expert panel established
Karst
At the Albhochfläche different kinds of karst were detected Geo-physical explorations along the new high speed line Wendlingen-Ulm Stabilization of the ground with concrete
21 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Status Protection of nature and species has a particular importance
Species protection
Lizards – approx. 10.000 lizards in several parts of the project – 80 m² to 150 m² space needed for every grown-up lizard Beetles (Juchtenkäfer) detected in a nature reserve in Stuttgart Protection of nature and species effects the planning permissions
Nature protection
Construction waste with higher levels of sulphates (pyrite) detected at Boßlertunnel und Albvorlandtunnel Additional disposal costs New negotiations with construction companies
22 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Status Stakeholder management and public relation work are essential
Stakeholder
Less resistance against the project Cooperation with authorities and project partners is well established
Public
Still high public attention Public information about progress and next steps Regular citizens events Guided tours of the building site, project homepage, project magazine, public events (FaSzination S21, Tag der offenen Baustelle etc.)
23 DB Projekt Stuttgart–Ulm GmbH | Manfred Leger | 21.11.2017 Next steps There are still many challanges, but we are looking forward to some special highlights
