Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme Today we welcome the players, management, officials and supporters of Formartine United to Bellslea Park for our Pres s & Journal Highland League tie. An extra special welcome to the guys who all left the Broch last season to go to Formartine United who will be making their first official appearance back at Bellslea since then. To Kris, Mike, Scott, Eck, Duncan and Paul it will be good to see you all again. Whether it would change should we do it I don’t really know. I can’t see it changing anytime soon to be The last couple of weeks have seen us being idle on the honest. field due to our games against Clach and Nairn County being postponed but it has been a busy time off the field. Our last match was nothing short of being a cracker. The 4-2 victory was fully deserved and it was great to We have brought in Paul Campbell from Maud who I am see the Bellslea back to its rocking best. There is sure will be a great addition to the club and look forward certainly something special about the Bellslea at that to seeing him in a Black & White shirt. Adam Clark and time of the year. How did you view the performances? I told the guys that the performances against Keith and Brora were not to the standard I expect from them. They let themselves down, especially against Keith. We simply did not turn up, however that said we created more than enough chances that day to win the game comfortably. Brora was a different story, they were simply clinical, 8 attempts on goal with 6 going in. Their two wide players were both on form and we struggled to cope. A learning curve for me as well as the guys that if we want to ever compete then that's the standards we must meet week after week. Today's game is just another game. Yes there is some history with Kris and his coaches coming back but that's That was followed by one of the best performances of football. Managers come and go and Kris made a the season against Cove Rangers which also saw decision last year to move on so he went with all our Russell McBride feature as a striker. How pleased best wishes but the club had to move on. We couldn't sit were you with his contribution and the whole team back and allow all his good work go to waste. I had to effort? build on it and add my ideas to the team and I think now we are starting to see the rewards. We will approach the After the heavy defeat up at Brora, it would have been game like every other. We want to win the game and for easy to lose confidence and go on a bad run but the 90 minutes we will be competing against each other but team is full of characters and they turned things around after the game I’m sure we can mix and have a beer or in some style. It was a very good team performance two. where we deservedly won and in fact if anything it could have been by a bigger margin. I thought up at Brora, we As you look back on your first 7/8 months of struggled to keep the ball up front so we know what being Fraserburgh manager how do you feel about the Russell's strengths are so we took a gamble and luckily it progress you have made and what are you looking for paid off. He was superb and held the ball in which let over the rest of this season? our midfield get further up the park. His link up play was also very good and he was a nuisance to Cove the I think I am starting to settle in a bit more now and the whole game. He is a very clever player who can adapt to team are starting to buy in to my ideas more. I have play at the back or up front if required. All the players enjoyed every second of this and hope to be involved for turned up that day and that's why we won the game many years to come. We want to be challenging every year and I believe we as a club have the base to do so. Saturday sees you face up against former manager Kris We have moved some players on and also brought new Hunter and Formartine United. Is there any extra faces in and I feel we now have a young group of lads pressure on the guys to do well in the match or will who want success, with a couple of older heads in there you be approaching it like any other game? too, whom are essential to the club going forward. There is never any pressure on the guys, well certainly All the best, Mark. not from me. All I ask is that they work hard. • Juvenile News 27
Juvenile News Issue Number 27 Date January 2003 SFA Commission Review of Youth Football The SFA have appointed PMP Consultantcy to carry out a review of youth football in Scotland. The review will examine: 1. The existing mechanisms for the identification and development of football talent; 2. The respective roles of the SFA, professional leagues, clubs and other national and regional bodies; 3. Links to other SFA activities aimed at widening participation at school and community level. David Taylor, SFA Chief Executive, said: “It is apparent that our current football structures are not producing sufficient players of a standard to compete at the highest levels of the game. “Almost half of the professionals appearing in the SPL are of non-Scottish origin. This lack of exposure of Scottish players at the top level of the game may have serious long term consequences for the promotion of the game in Scotland, and may seriously diminish the future prospects of the Scottish national team. ”With the aid of independent consultants, we will examine the reasons for this and change our systems, processes and structures, if that is necessary, in the interests of the game. The consultants will complete their report within six months, and I expect them to come up with clear and comprehensive recommendations for the development of youth football in Scotland. ”I am heartened that this review has the support of all football authorities in Scotland. From this work, we expect to produce a Youth Football Plan for Scotland which will be the basis for major development projects to restore Scotland’s fortunes as a football nation.” Richard Callicott, UK Sport’s Chief Executive, said: “This type of project – looking to change and improve the way in which key sports agencies work together to a clear and common vision – is exactly what our governing body modernisation programme is all about.

  • Reframing Scottish Football: Strategy and the Short-Term Nature of the Football Industry
Edinburgh Napier University Business School Reframing Scottish Football: Strategy and the short-term nature of the football industry Stephen Robertson Doctor of Business Administration A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Edinburgh Napier University, for the award of Doctor of Business Administration July 2015 “In human behavior there was always uncertainty and risk. The goal of the Oakland front office was simply to minimize the risk. Their solution wasn’t perfect, it was just better than the hoary alternative, rendering decisions by gut feeling.” Lewis (2011 p.136) Abstract Despite football being deeply entrenched in Scottish culture it is under- researched from a business perspective. This research develops a conceptual framework that views professional football clubs from a number of different perspectives. It draws on strategic management literature since this views the firm as the intersection between internal competence, customer perception and competition within an industry. A review of previous sports business research highlighted five main themes that were used to create a structure for the analysis: on-field performance, attendance, finance, the playing squad and the manager. These themes were used as frames to view the firms within the industry from a number of different perspectives. Each frame allows a different aspect of the firm to be considered singly in turn and then collectively to develop a deeper understanding of the existing frames in use within the industry. The research is based on a pragmatic philosophy that allows mixed methods to be combined to provide both an objective and subjective view of the industry. The subjective view was drawn from five interviews with senior figures within Scottish professional football.

  • Updated Author Biography : August 2011 the Author. Charles
Updated Author Biography : August 2011 The Author. Charles Bannerman's first experience of Inverness football was, as described in the new introductory chapter to this book, a fortnightly pilgrimage to Telford Street Park as a Dalneigh schoolboy in the 1960s. A move "up the hill" to Inverness Royal Academy cultivated a great admiration for Thistle as well while a love for Clach was possibly inspired by a grandmother with Merkinch connections. He continues to be a strong advocate of the game in Inverness. After four years studying Chemistry in Edinburgh he returned to Inverness and has taught the subject at Inverness Royal Academy since 1977. He is in addition the school's press officer and has also written a series of three "Up Stephen's Brae" books reflecting life at the Royal Academy when it was situated at Midmills. He has been the BBC's sports reporter in the Highlands on a freelance basis since 1984, contributing to local programming as well as national radio and television. Along with two of the photographers whose work is included in this book, Ken MacPherson and Trevor Martin, he is the only reporter to have followed Caley Thistle since the very start, or indeed before it. This involvement also provided him with much of the material for this book. He has also been the Inverness Courier's athletics correspondent since 1976. His other great sporting interest is athletics, which he has coached at all levels from primary school children to Commonwealth Games, but he has now "almost" retired from both competition and coaching.
