Fraserburgh FC Official Matchday Programme

The matches against Keith and Brora Rangers saw the team suffer disappointing defeats. How did you view the performances?

I told the guys that the performances against Keith and Brora were not to the standard I expect from them. They let themselves down, especially against Keith. We simply did not turn up, however that said we created more than enough chances that day to win the game comfortably. Brora was a different story, they were simply clinical, 8 attempts on goal with 6 going in. Their two wide players were both on form and we struggled to cope. A learning curve for me as well as the guys that if we want to ever compete then that's the standards we must meet week after week. Today's game is just another game. Yes there is some history with Kris and his coaches coming back but that's That was followed by one of the best performances of football. Managers come and go and Kris made a the season against Cove Rangers which also saw decision last year to move on so he went with all our Russell McBride feature as a striker. How pleased best wishes but the club had to move on. We couldn't sit were you with his contribution and the whole team back and allow all his good work go to waste. I had to effort? build on it and add my ideas to the team and I think now we are starting to see the rewards. We will approach the After the heavy defeat up at Brora, it would have been game like every other. We want to win the game and for easy to lose confidence and go on a bad run but the 90 minutes we will be competing against each other but team is full of characters and they turned things around after the game I’m sure we can mix and have a beer or in some style. It was a very good team performance two. where we deservedly won and in fact if anything it could have been by a bigger margin. I thought up at Brora, we As you look back on your first 7/8 months of struggled to keep the ball up front so we know what being Fraserburgh manager how do you feel about the Russell's strengths are so we took a gamble and luckily it progress you have made and what are you looking for paid off. He was superb and held the ball in which let over the rest of this season? our midfield get further up the park. His link up play was also very good and he was a nuisance to Cove the I think I am starting to settle in a bit more now and the whole game. He is a very clever player who can adapt to team are starting to buy in to my ideas more. I have play at the back or up front if required. All the players enjoyed every second of this and hope to be involved for turned up that day and that's why we won the game many years to come. We want to be challenging every year and I believe we as a club have the base to do so. Saturday sees you face up against former manager Kris We have moved some players on and also brought new Hunter and Formartine United. Is there any extra faces in and I feel we now have a young group of lads pressure on the guys to do well in the match or will who want success, with a couple of older heads in there you be approaching it like any other game? too, whom are essential to the club going forward.

There is never any pressure on the guys, well certainly All the best, Mark. not from me. All I ask is that they work hard.

Formartine United FC - Brief History Formartine United were formed on the 15th of March 1948 after a meeting at the school in Pitmedden and played their home matches at Hotel Park in Udny Station, approximately 3 miles from our current location at North Lodge Park in Pitmedden. The new club was formed after the local team called Pitmedden played in the local Buchan amateur league. Formartine played in the Aberdeenshire amateur league between 1948 and 1960 when they were voted into the North of Scotland Junior ranks. They continued to play at Hotel Park, Udny Station, moving to their current ground, North Lodge Park on the outskirts of Pitmedden village in 1974.

Formartine played mainly in the second tier of the North Junior until 1995 when they were promoted after finishing runners in the league. Their stint in the first division was short lived, as they were relegated the following season, only to be promoted once again in 1997 after winning a play off, against Aberdeen East End, to secure promotion having finished 3rd in the League. After finishing a respectable 8th in 97-98 things, changed dramatically at North Lodge following the appointment of Dave Cormie as Manager. In Cormie’s eight years at Formartine, they became one of the real forces in the North Region Super league, winning the title in 2002 after a final day victory at home to Sunnybank and finishing runners up and third on several occasions. In addition, they became a team of cup specialists winning 7 cups in 8 seasons, with one of the most memorable being the Cable cup win at Pittodrie in 1998, defeating local rivals Inverurie Loco Works 3-2.

Formartine applied for SHFL membership in December 2008 and were voted in along with Strathspey Thistle and Turriff United in February 2009. The Club has made major investment in the North Lodge facilities installing two 150 seat stands, two sections of terrace area, corporate facilities as well as major improvements in the playing surface and floodlighting which were first utilised on the 10th of August 2009 during the Aberdeenshire League match against Fraserburgh. Having finished runners up in the Highland League in 2013, Formartine secured their first senior honour last season with a 3-2 victory against local rivals

Inverurie Loco Works at a rain soaked Bellslea Part at Fraserburgh, coming back from two down with a Michael Ewen last minute header securing the trophy.

Famous players that have worn the red and white stripes include Aberdeen stalwart of the 60’s Ally Shewan as well as former

Dundee United and Dunfermline Athletic player Hamish French. More recently former Dons players Phil McGuire and Jamie

Winter have worn the red and white stripes along with Inverness CT and Dundee stalwart Bobby Mann, Celtic and Dundee

United’s David Hannah, former Dundee goalie Derek Souter and most recently former Hearts, Raith Rovers and Livingston midfielder Joe Hamill.

The summer of 2015 has seen the next revolution begin at North Lodge with new Manager, Kris Hunter, replacing the departing Steve Paterson and immediately ringing the changes in the playing staff bringing in 13 new signings and only retaining 7 of the 2014 -15 squad. The manager also instigated refurbishment of the club dressing rooms in order to provide a more professional surrounding for the new squad as he attempts to bring the success the club is seeking.

The Broch took an early lead after Ryan Smart picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and curled the ball home from 10 yards. Next to try his luck was Courtney Cooper who fired in a drive from 25 yards which the Huntly keeper did well to save. Huntly had a chance to level on 25 minutes but their player headed over from close range. A minute later Duguid shot from 25 yards but Edward Flinn did well to save the effort. Hamish Burr then waltzed through the Huntly defence only to see his shot deflected wide. On 34 minutes Aidan Combe cut in from the left and shot towards goal which the Huntly keeper saved. Just before the break Kane McCrory crossed into the box for Ryan Smart but his shot went past the post. Half Time: Fraserburgh 1-0 Huntly Huntly equalised on 60 minutes when Felipe Da Silva cut in from the right wing and fired a shot past Flinn from 12 yards. Ten minutes later the Broch almost regained the lead when Adam Clark’s long free kick into the box just evaded Murray Maitland’s late run at the back post. Two minutes later Maitland was the provider for Cooper but he shot over the bar. Huntly went ahead on 76 minutes when their striker struck with a close range finish. Two minutes later Flinn came to the rescue for the home side when he saved from Duguid after the Huntly player broke through the middle. The reprieve was short lived as Huntly scored a third on 80 minutes from inside the box to seal all three points from the match.
