Today’s game marks the first of eight games between New Jersey and Buffalo in the 2020-21 regular season series. Today’s game will mark the first back-to-back set Devils will play this season. The Devils will play six back-to-back sets this season, two of which involve the Buffalo Sabres. Last season the Devils were 0-5-4 in the first game and 4-4-1 in the second game.

This season series between the Devils and Sabres will mark the fifth time in franchise history that New Jersey and Buffalo will play consecutive games against each other. This season will also mark the second time in franchise history that New Jersey and Buffalo will play a back-to-back against each other. The last time was Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, 2016. The Devils won both games of the back-to-back home and home set. This weekends back-to-back will be the first time in franchise history the two teams have played a back-to-back in the same location.

RUFF

Ruff is one of the most successful coaches in NHL history, ranking third in wins among active coaches and sixth all-time. He is also fourth among active coaches in games coached and seventh all-time. In parts of 19 NHL seasons with the Buffalo Sabres (1997-98 to 2012-13) and (2013-14 to 2016-17), Ruff has compiled a career coaching record of 739-556-78-126=1,682 points (.561 points percentage) in 1,499 career regular-season games. He has posted nine 40-plus win seasons, including a career-high 53 wins in 2006-07.
