TEAM NOTES:

BRING IT ON HOME This afternoon, the Penguins begin their second five-game homestand during the month of March. Pittsburgh won four out of five on the previous five- game homestand (4-1-0). After this stretch of five games, Pittsburgh is scheduled to have only eight more games at PPG Paints Arena, a place that has treated them kindly this season. The Penguins’ 12 home wins are tied for the most in the NHL this season while their 3.60 goals per game are ranked fifth in the league.

Sidney Crosby has led the way for Pittsburgh on home ice, recording 19 points (6G-13A) in 14 games:

Category PIT Leader Total Goals Bryan Rust 7 Assists Sidney Crosby 13 Points Sidney Crosby 19 Plus/Minus Kris Letang +12 PTS/Game Sidney Crosby 1.36

IN RUST WE TRUST Bryan Rust scored a highlight-reel goal yesterday in New Jersey, giving him goals in back-to-back games for the third time this season (also Jan. 22-24 and Feb. 11-14). A goal today can give Rust his first three-game goal scoring streak since Dec. 12-17, 2019 (3GP, 4G-2A).

Rust’s goal also extends his point streak versus New Jersey to four games (2G-2A) dating back to Nov. 22, 2019. Going back further, Rust has six points in his last seven games against the Devils (4G-2A).

GUENTZ-GOAL Jake Guentzel scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season on Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. The goal was Guentzel’s sixth in his last seven games, and dating back to March 9, only Edmonton's Leon Draisaitl has scored more goals in the NHL than Guentzel:

Player GP G Leon Draisaitl 7 7 Jake Guentzel 7 6 Alex Ovechkin 7 6 Connor McDavid 7 6 Robby Fabbri 6 5 Kyle Connor 7 5

JARRY CLIMBING THE RANKS Goaltender Tristan Jarry has been playing exceptionally well over the last month. Since Feb. 18, Jarry is 9-3-0 with a 2.33 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. His nine wins during that span are tied for third-most in the NHL.

Jarry enters tonight’s game with 46 career wins. With a win tonight, he can claim sole possession of ninth place on the team’s all-time wins list, surpassing Johan Hedberg and Roberto Romano.

In two career starts against New Jersey, Jarry is 1-1-0 with a 2.04 goals-against average and .944 save percentage.

87 WITHOUT 71 Pittsburgh received bad news on Friday, as it was announced that Evgeni Malkin would be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. The Penguins will look for leadership from their Sidney Crosby, who has historically produced with Malkin out of the lineup:

Situation GP G A PTS. PTS/GP Without Malkin 144 61 114 175 1.22

Last season, Crosby recorded six goals, 12 assists and 18 points in 12 games without Malkin in the lineup. This year, the captain has two points (2A) in two games.

JERSEY BOYS Sidney Crosby has made a habit of turning in solid performances against the Devils. In 68 career games versus New Jersey, Crosby has recorded 74 points (33G-41A), ranking first in scoring among all active players.

SEIZE THE DAY Over the course of his career, Sidney Crosby has thrived in day games. The Penguins captain has the highest points-per-game average in day games among all active NHL players:
