The firm's foundation is traced back to 1867, when Anatole Carlhian and his brother-in-law, Albert Dujardin-Beaumetz, founded the export commission business Carlhian & Beaumetz located in Paris at 30, rue Beaurepaire, close to the place de la République. The firm initially made purchases on behalf of its clients and later specialized in reproductions of period French furniture. The London dealer Duveen Brothers became an important client, using Carlhian & Beaumetz as an intermediary for its dealings in the French market not involving fine art and antique objects.

WEAVING TECHNOLOGY II Prof.Dr. Emel Önder Ass.Prof.Dr.Ömer Berk Berkalp IntroductionIntroduction • Fabrics are textile surfaces. These structures are extremely long in comparison with their thickness. • There are basically 3 methods in fabric manufacture: 1. Weaving 2. Knitting 3. Nonwoven fabric manufacture (felt making) • The yarn is used to produce fabrics by either weaving or knitting. • An alternative method of producing a fabric from fibers, without making a yarn is that of felt making. • Fabrics can be produced by one of those methods or by a combination of them. The majority of the fabric production is based on the woven fabrics. • Woven fabrics are manufactured for many end-use purposes: 1. apparel fabrics for clothing/garmenting, i.e., suits, dresses, shirts, coats, sportswear etc. 2. household textiles & furnishings, i.e., curtains, tablecloths, bed sheets, towels, upholstery and tapestry fabrics, carpets, etc., 3. industrial and technical fabrics, i.e., transmission belts, safety belts, sail cloths, sack cloth, tent cloth, geotextiles for buildings. Nebraska Cooperative Extension NF00-416 Sewing with Silky Textured Fabrics Rose Marie Tondl, Extension Clothing Specialist What are silky textured fabrics? Silky textured fabrics have a smooth, lustrous surface often referred to as satin fabric. The term satin is the name of a weave. The sheen of the fabric comes from yarns that float over several yarns before interlacing with another yarn. These floating yarns reflect light and produce a shiny surface. Fibers used in a satin weave include rayon, polyester, acetate and silk. Some fabric names include crepe de chine, crepe-backed satin, sateen, shantung, antique satin and charmeuse. Patterns Because these fabrics are selected for their beauty and not durability, prom dresses, formals, wedding dresses, jackets and blouses are patterns most often used. Preshrink Check the end bolt of the fabric for care requirements. Some fabrics may be washable, while others may need to be dry cleaned.
