Al-Muttalib ist der Bruder von Haschim, welcher der Vater von ’Abdul-Muttalib ist. Man ist sich einstimmig, dass der Imam in Ghazza geboren wurde. Sein Vater starb als junger Mann. Daher wuchs Muhammad als Halbwaise unter der Obhut seiner Mutter auf. Sie fürchtete daher die Wirkung des Landes auf ihn und nahm ihn deshalb zu seinem eigentlichen Abstammungsort, als er zwei Jahre alt war. Er wuchs in Mekka auf und begann mit dem Bogenschießen, bis er seine Zeitgenossen übertraf. Und er war in der Lage, neun von zehn Zielen zu treffen. Danach begann er die arabische Sprache und Dichtung zu studieren, so dass er hierin erfahren wurde.
