13th Annual Quahog Bowl February 6th, 2010 Hosted by Connecticut Sea Grant & Project Oceanology The Quahog Bowl, the regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl that serves Connecticut and Rhode Island, wants to express its sincere gratitude to Dominion's Millstone Power Station for its support. It is only through the support of benefactors such as Dominion's Millstone Power Station that events like this are able to take place. WELCOME to the 13th Annual Quahog Bowl SPECTATORS • Please arrive at each game promptly as the door will be shut when the game begins and no one may enter or leave the competition room while the competition is in progress. • The audience must remain quiet during the games and no communication with the participants is allowed. Anyone violating this rule will be asked to leave the room. • Note taking, audio/video recording and photography are prohibited during the competition. • The UConn CO-OP will be open from 8 am to 2 pm. • Fin’s Cafe (located at Project Oceanology) will be open for lunch. COMPETITION ROOMS All competition rooms are located in the Academic Building on the University of Connecticut-Avery Point campus. COMPETITION FORMAT Each match consists of two six-minute halves separated by an intermission. In the first half, team members will answer a Jeopardy style round of buzzer questions. Members will then work together to answer two Team Challenge Questions. After intermission, the teams answer a second round of Jeopardy style buzzer questions. During the buzzer rounds, the first player to buzz in has the opportunity to answer the question. A correct answer results in a chance for the team to answer the bonus question. Teams receive match points: Win = 2, Tie = 1, Loss= 0. 2010 Quahog Bowl Teams Atlantic Ocean Division (A) Atlantic 1 ~ Bacon Academy Atlantic 3 ~Rocky Hill High School Atlantic 2 ~ Staples High School Atlantic 4 ~ Narragansett High School Pacific Ocean Division (P) Pacific 1 ~ Cranston High School East Pacific 3 ~ Glastonbury High School Pacific 2 ~ Plainville High School Pacific 4 ~ Ledyard High School Indian Ocean Division (I) Indian 1 ~ Waterford High School Indian 3 ~ North Kingstown High School Indian 2 ~ Woodstock Academy Indian 4 ~ Classical High School Red Sea Division (R) Red Sea 1 ~ Cranston High School West Red Sea 3 ~ Norwich Free Academy Red Sea 2 ~ Coginchaug Regional High School Red Sea 4 ~ Southington High School Round Robin pools were chosen at random Competition Schedule 7:50-8:15 Welcome (in the Academic Bulding, Room 308) Coaches and Team Members MUST BE PRESENT Round Robin Schedule RM RM RM RM RM RM Time 207 211 301 303 304 308 Round 1 8:20-9:00 P1 vs. P4 A2 vs. A3 A1 vs. A4 P2 vs. P3 I1 vs. I4 I2 vs. I3 Round 2 9:05-9:35 A1 vs. A2 P1 vs. P2 R1 vs. R3 R2 vs. R4 P3 vs. P4 A3 vs. A4 Round 3 9:40-10:10 R1 vs. R2 R3 vs. R4 I1 vs. I3 I2 vs. I4 A1 vs. A3 P2 vs. P4 Round 4 10:15-10:45 I1 vs. I2 I3 vs. I4 P1 vs. P3 A2 vs. A4 R1 vs. R4 R2 vs. R3 Break 10:45-11:00 Break to seed teams-teams will re-convene in room 308 Double Elimination Berths Announced, Room 308 AWARDS CEREMONY WILL FOLLOW THE FINAL GAME, (Room 308).
