Welcome to Haverhill Golf Club We are delighted to welcome Societies to Haverhill Golf Club and we will do our best to accommodate you on any weekday, providing there are no previous tee bookings.

Whilst we do not expect all of your players to hold handicap certificates, it is essential that they are golfers who understand the expected etiquette. Golf shoes must be worn, round necked tee shirts and jeans are not permitted and shorts must be tailored. Smart casual clothes must be worn in and around the Clubhouse.

A non-returnable deposit of £100 is required to confirm your booking and the booking form can be found at the end of this Society Pack. Introduction

About the Course Haverhill Golf Club is located 20 miles south east of Cambridge, 17 miles west of Bury St Edmunds, 18 miles north of Braintree and 30 miles north west of Colchester. The golf course is set in pleasant parkland, lying across two valleys. The front nine with its undulating fairways is admirably complimented by a saucer shaped back nine, which is bisected by the River Stour as it meanders through the golf course with greens reputed to be the best in the county. The course will present a challenge to both the seasoned golfer and newcomers alike.

Subject to availability, the Professional Staff will provide their teaching services for a period of 1 hour FREE OF CHARGE before play commences.

• Course Information: for the latest updates please call 01440 761951, option 1 or visit our website at www.haverhillgc.co.uk - the updates are published on our homepage. • Markers for nearest the pin and longest drive are available from the pro-shop - please indicate if these are required when you place your society booking.

Course Rules & Etiquette • Local rules are printed on the reverse of the scorecards. Please note all drainage runs are GUR. • No mobile phones to be used on the course except in an emergency contact the pro shop 01440 712628. Phones not to be used in the clubhouse, please use the car park or changing room. • Please ensure that you keep trolleys outside the blue lines around the greens. • Please rake bunkers, and replace divots and repair pitch marks. • Please make practice swings to the side of the tee boxes. • – appropriate golf attire on the golf course - no trainers or in the clubhouse. No socked feet. Members, guests and visitors are expected at all times both on the course and in the Clubhouse to dress in a manner respectful of the Club and its Members and appropriate to the traditional conventions of the game of golf. ON THE PRACTICE AREAS • Casual may be worn on the practice area. • Trainers or other flat shoes may be worn on the practice, putting and chipping areas, but golfers must be aware of and accept the risk of slipping and/or loss of footing. • Haverhill Golf Club will accept no responsibility for accident or injury caused, or contributed to, by the lack of proper golfing footwear. ON THE COURSE • Golfers must be dressed in customary golf wear or similar appropriate smart casual clothing (no blue denim). • Golf shoes must always be worn when playing the golf course. • The Club Manager or Staff, Professional Staff, Course Marshals or members of the Club Committee may require any person considered by them to be inappropriately dressed, either to change or leave the course. IN THE CLUBHOUSE • Members, guests and visitors may wear smart, casual clothing (not ripped or torn ‘workwear’) and footwear must be worn at all times in all areas of the Clubhouse. • Golf shoes and of any kind may not be worn in the main bar and restaurant areas, except for hats worn by ladies attending a formal function such as a wedding reception. • The Committee may require that formal dress must be worn on specific occasions, such as prize giving ceremonies, formal dinners and match meals. • The Club Manager, Club Staff or members of the Club Committee may require any person considered to be inappropriately dressed, either to change or leave the Clubhouse. • A no smoking rule applies in all buildings of the Golf Club except the designated smoking hut. This applies also to E-cigarettes.

Should any member consider a member, guest or visitor to be inappropriately dressed then they should bring this to the attention of the Club Manager, or any member of the Staff or Club Committee who may be present.

Members are reminded that it is they who set the standards and that they are responsible at all times for their guests’ standard of play, etiquette, dress and decorum, both on the course and in the Clubhouse. All players must adhere to the following Suspension of Play procedure.

A suspension of play for a dangerous situation (e.g. lightning) will be signalled by a prolonged single blast on the klaxon operated from the Pro-shop. However, even if the klaxon is not sounded and the players believe that there is real risk of, or danger from, lightning then the player is entitled to proceed under the provision of Rule 6-8 and discontinue play.

During casual play, players have to proceed under Rule 6-8. This makes it the player’s own responsibility to discontinue play when, in his/her opinion, a danger from lightning exists.
