This was transcribed (without permission, sorry) from the ‘’ episode ‘Pool Hall Blues’. The music is not credited but according to a 1992 interview in ‘Quantum Quarterly’ it was written by Deborah Pratt and for the episode. This transcription can be at best only an approximation to the real thing, so the best policy is to listen to the performance and com- pare the written notes with the sung music.

In ‘Pool Hall Blues’, the first section of music up to bar 12 is sung by Sam alone, then ‘his’ grand- daughter joins in. In the divisi parts she sings the notes with stems going down and he sings those with stems going up.

Notes:

bar 7: No definite note on ‘-ther’ (perhaps a slide from G to F as at the corresponding place in the previous phrase).

bar 8: On the last piano chord of this bar something strange happens; this might not be exactly it, but it’s close enough.

bar 18: Timing is strange in this bar. It is as if a quaver has been stolen from the end and inserted in the middle.

bar 23: The piano quavers in this and subsequent bars have been artificially made to add up to the right number of beats to fill the bar; this timing should not be taken literally.

bar 27: I had to make these two chords up, sorry—and a few extra notes on the end have been omit- ted.
