The Revelation of : "The Four Horsemen of the " Revelation 6:1-8

Introduction Arriving at Revelation 6, we come to the prophetic portion of the book. was a revealing of the glory of the Triune God, and 3 gave encouragement and admonishment to the seven churches, and and 5 brought John into the throne room of God. In that most awesome place, God the Father holds out the seven-sealed scroll, the title deed to the earth with provisions as of a will. Only Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, is worthy to open the scroll, leading to the arrival of the Kingdom of God on earth with Jesus reigning. The contents of the scroll are essentially the content of Revelation 6-19 enacted, that is, the judgments of the , the , and the . These judgments take place during the 7-year tribulation/"Seventieth Week of Daniel" (Daniel 9:24-27). The opening of the seal judgments is taking place at the beginning of the 7-year Seventieth Week of Daniel. The chart below describes the awesome agreement with Jesus' teaching in Matthew 24 and the first six seal judgments as recorded in Rev. 6:1-17:

I. The First Seal Judgment of False Peace: A White Horse 6:1,2 1 Then I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, “Come.” 2 I looked, and behold, a white horse, and he who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer. A. Jesus breaks the first seal 6:1 1. The Lamb only breaks the first seal, but He does not speak 2. One of the four living creatures speaks with a voice of thunder 3. Somehow that living creature knows the command to give to the white horse to "Come" B. The white horse appears 6:2 1. The rider of the white horse had a bow, like Nimrod? Tammuz? 2. A "crown", 'stephanos', was given to him 3. "He went out conquering and to conquer" II. The Second Seal Judgment of War: A Red Horse 6:3,4 3 When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, "Come". 4 And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him. A. Jesus breaks the second seal, the second living creature says, "Come" 6:3 B. The red horse "went out" 6:4 1. To him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth 2. The rider would cause men to slay one another 3. A great sword was given to the rider

III. The Third Seal Judgment of Famine: A Black Horse 6:5,6 5 When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.” A. Jesus breaks the third seal, the third living creature says, "Come" 6:5a B. The black horse 6:5b 1. The rider had a pair scales in his hand 2. The likely reason for the scales C. Something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures speaks 6:6 1. "A quart of wheat for a denarius" 2. "Three quarts of barley for a denarius" 3. "Do not damage the oil and the wine"

IV. The Fourth Seal Judgment of Death: An Ashen Horse 6:7,8 7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.” 8 I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth. A. Jesus, breaks the fourth seal, and the fourth living creature says, "Come" 6:7 B. The ashen horse 6:8 1. The rider had the name "Death" 2. Hades was following with the rider named "Death" 3. Authority was given to the rider over a fourth of the earth a. To kill with the sword, famine, pestilence, wild beasts of the earth b. Does "authority was given" mean that a fourth of the earth was actually killed, or that permission was given to do so, but it was not necessarily carried out?
