The Beast

Chapter 17 & 18 - The Whore of Babylon • God’s judgement against this “great prostitute” (17:1) • The kings of the earth have “committed sexual immorality” with her. (gotten into bed) (17:2) • She holds a cup of gold filled with “abominations and impurities” (17:4) • On her head is written this name “Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations.” (17:5) • She is drunk with the blood of the saints, the martyrs of Jesus (17:5) • Multiple kings and kingdoms have come under her seductive influence (17:7-13, 18) • Together these kings will make war on the Lamb, but the Lamb will conquer them, because he is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. (17:14) • In her was found the blood fo prophets and of saints (18:24) Chapter 17 & 18 - The Whore of Babylon • God’s people are called to come out of her, lest you take part in her sins and share in her plagues. (18:4-5) • Those who are seduced by her often live in luxury and excess (18:7) • The nations of the world, who have grown rich because of her, will weep and mourn as she is destroyed (18:9-20) Chapter 17 & 18 - The Whore of Babylon
Isaiah 47:8 - “I am, and there is no one besides me; I shall not sit as a widow or know the loss of children”
Isaiah 47:11 - But evil shall come upon you, which you will not know how to charm away; disaster shall fall upon you, for which you will not be able to atone; and ruin shall come upon you suddenly, of which you know nothing.

1. Culture is not neutral. 2. Satan attacks God’s people via the front door through governmental persecution. 3. Satan attacks God’s people via the backdoor through seductive, idolatrous culture. 4. No enemy of God’s people will finally stand. The Lord has a day and that day is coming. Chapter 19 - The Wedding!

(Genesis 2) • Jesus upheld marriage as sacred (Matthew 19:4-6) • Participants are Jesus & His Bride (The Church) • Jesus is referred to the bridegroom (John 3:29, Mark 2:19, Matthew 25) • His Bride is the Church (Ephesians 5, 2 Corinthians 11:2-4, Romans 7:4) The Word of God has Power!
Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
