Thursday 04/22/2004 10:40:38am Name: robin romack Email: [email protected] Referred By: No One Location: Danville, HS Danville, IL Comments: I'm circulating a petition asking the USPS to issue a stamp in his honor. A counselor here was mentioning that the USPS has repeatedly denied requests. I propose that schools throughout the country promote the idea and work together to make it happen. Are music artists, movie stars, authors, animals, etc, become the icons we choose to represent our country. As we question our patriotism, rights, and the choices made by our country one fact remains. Audie Murphy stands apart, the most decorated American soldier, honored both at home in the U.S., and abroad. He was in addition a film star beloved by many, portraying characters of strength, integrity, and compassion. Has this been tried? Any feedback?

I doubt that there will be another soldier like him in this century. May his memory never be forgoten. One of the greatest United States Soldiers in this world.

Many of the heroes that the young of today look up to are either actors who easily portray heroism in make believe. That is easy and as kids of my generation we all used to kill the Nazis daily! Audie starred on the silver screen as hero figures in depictions of combat from the Civil War onwards. He earns our respect because he did it for real. A proud feat that defies belief given combat loss percentages. Of course, all who fought in that and any war deserve our respect and thanks but Audie deserves our special admiration as does that other highly decorated actor, Neville Brand. In Audie's case it was indeed a shame that his life was cut short.
