Many of the heroes that the young of today look up to are either actors who easily portray heroism in make believe. That is easy and as kids of my generation we all used to kill the Nazis daily! Audie starred on the silver screen as hero figures in depictions of combat from the Civil War onwards. He earns our respect because he did it for real. A proud feat that defies belief given combat loss percentages. Of course,all who fought in that and any war deserve our respect and thanks but Audie deserves our special admiration as does that other highly decorated actor, Neville Brand.In Audie's case it was indeed a shame that his life was cut short.
