TINDERSTICKS SLIPPER NYTT ALBUM "ACROSS SIX LEAP YEARS" - Slippes 15. oktober Etter 21 år har Tindersticks ni studioalbum og utallige verdensturnéer i bagasjen. I 2012 slapp de ”The Something Rain”, et album som mange anser å være bandets sterkeste. Tindersticks har fått ny bensin på bålet etter nesten-kollapsen pga. mangeårig mental slitasje. -Nå rekapitulerer bandet med et album med nye versjoner av låter fra sin rikholdige katalog, innspilt i Abbey Road Studios 6 i løpet fire herlige dager med Stuart A. Staples som produsent. Resultatet er et album med navnet ”Across Six Leap Years" som Tindersticks-medlemmet David Boulter beskriver på følgende måte… "Walking up to Abbey Road, it could easily have overcome us. But it had nothing to do with its past. We weren’t there to take photos on the crossing. I didn’t think about playing the Lady Madonna piano. I’d like to say it was just another studio, but sadly, that’s not true anymore. It’s one of the only studios of its kind left. And it wasn’t about our past either. These songs feel like cover versions. Someone else’s music we feel we had something new to bring to. Abbey Road could have been a big slap on the back. Or a big punch in the face. But it felt natural. It’s where we should be. It’s important that we got here and to give ourselves some credit. It’s also important to give these songs a new life." Hrá na čelo a na unikátny nástroj čel- hu, jediný svojho druhu, ktorý špeciálne pre ňu vyrobil austrálsky výrobca nástrojov Peter Biffin pod ľa princípov posvätnej geometrie, na základe starých sumerských schematických kresieb strunových nástrojov, nájdených koncom 20. storo čia na tabu ľkách v dielni lutnára z 12.storo čia v Jeruzaleme. Nástroj má pod hracími strunami sadu sympatetických strún, ktoré pri hraní vibrujú a rezonujú, a tým vytvárajú magický efekt, aký nemá žiadny iný hudobný nástroj. Kapelu tvoria ešte Elad Gabbay, hrá č na kanun a spevák, ktorý vyjadruje v jej hudbe orientálne vplyvy zmysluplným a bohatým spôsobom; jeden z najlepších izraelských flautistov Hagit Rosemarin a špi čkový perkusionista Lev Alman. Na albume ďalej hos ťujú zvukový virtuóz Michael Meltzer, kurdská spevá čka Ilana Eliah a Lianne Aharoni. It’s also an ambitious collaborative film project where each song on the album will be accompanied by a short film. The idea for this was created in conjunction with the ClermoNt-FerraNd INterNatiONal ShOrt Film Festival and its chief CalmiN Borel. Calmin’s great knowledge of short film coupled with Tindersticks’ very definite sense of aesthetic were a strong foundation for this concept. Specific filmmakers were approached with a different song from the album, resulting in a varied collection of styles and techniques that are a perfect foil to Staples’ intimate relationship with the songs.

In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
