Box 1237, FIN-70211 Kuopio, Finland Commissioned by E-mail: [email protected] Geological Survey of Finland Title of report Exploration for zinc in the claim areas Topilanmäki 1-2 (mining register numbers 5311/1-2) at Juankoski in the years 1993-1995 Abstract A reservation for claim called ''Topilanmäki'' was granted to the Geological Survey of Finland for the village of Viitaniemi, part of the municipality of Juankoski in 1993, subsequently followed with exploration licences for the claim areas ''Topilanmäki'' 1-2 in 1994-1995. The exploration activities were started on the basis of a layman's sample containing sphalerite. Topilanmäki is situated within the continuation of Punamäki, a formerly studied low-grade Ni-Cu-Zn deposit. The Topilanmäki target was subjected under lithological mapping, trenching, ground geophysics, and diamond drilling (5 holes/815 m). Lenticular in shape and possibly measuring up to 100 m by 250 m in surface section, the Topilanmäki Ni-Cu-Zn deposit is hosted by Proterozoic mica gneiss and associated minor zones of black schist and calc-silicate rock. The deposit occurs next to a westward dipping major zone of quartzite, amphibolite and calc-silicate rock, on its western flank; to the west of the deposit, there are mica gneiss and black schist, tectonically bordered by the Archean basement gneiss farther in the west. In a profile of three drill holes (the Topilanmäki Section) the sections of the deposit shown in the cores are 1 1-27 m thick, with mean contents ranging 0, 17-0,28 % Ni, 0, 1 1-0, 16 % Cu and 0,56-0,68 % Zn. With pentlandite as inclusions, pyrrhotite is the predominant sulphide mineral. Sphalerite as well as chalcopyrite may fringe the pyrrhotite but they also occur as disseminations separate from the pyrrhotite. Being of the same grade as those reported from the Punamäki deposit, the metal contents of the Topilanmäki samples are too low for this deposit to be considered as a feasible source for mineral raw materials. Mikkosen ampuma kallio on Punamäen esiintymään kairattujen profiilien eteläpuolella. Koko alueella on kallioperässä vahva, loiva viivaus- ja poimuakselisuunta etelää kohti. Joulukuussa 1992 tutkimuskeskus haki valtausvarauksen Topilanmäeksi nimetylle alueelle (liite 1), jotta voitaisiin tutkia miten ja millaisena Punamäen esiintymä jatkuu etelään; vaikka sen ja Mikkosen uuden löydön metallipitoisuudet ovatkin alhaisia,

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles Essays in Political Economy A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science by Imil Nurutdinov 2019 © Copyright by Imil Nurutdinov 2019 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Essays in Political Economy by Imil Nurutdinov Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science University of California, Los Angeles, 2019 Professor Leslie Nicole Johns, CoChair Professor Ronald L. Rogowski, CoChair This dissertation studies the determinants of political institutions and their impact on economic development in various historical contexts. The first chapter focuses on the Catholic Church, which for centuries determined the political, economic, and cultural development of Europe and was the greatest and most enduring rival to the nationstate. Why did the Church’s power decline earlier in Northwestern Europe than in the East and South? I argue that to a large extent the differential political influence of the Church can be explained by differential demand for collective security in the face of the possible invasion by the militarily superior “infidels.” Catholic states had to cooperate to achieve military success. To mitigate the interstate collective action problem, Catholic states voluntarily delegated legal and fiscal authorities to a common nonterritorial jurisdiction, which was the Church. States in Northwestern Europe had lower demand for protection against the “infidels,” therefore, commitment to the Church was weaker. To measure the Church’s political power across time and space at the subnational (diocesan) level, I have assembled a novel dataset on appointments of bishops between 1198 and 1517, the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.

Finland constitutes no exception to this general rule. In her case it is a fact, however, that the framework of her political · structure, as molded by centuries of experience and development, proved capable of withstAnding the strain and hardships of two wars. In conjunction with Professor Niitemaa's Migration History Project, I have had a number of opportunities to carry out research in the United States and Canada. These visits have also given me the personal occasion to interiorize those factors making to diminish or increase the probability of return, towards which each and every migrant was forced to clarify his stance, and which form the central theme in my dissertation.

Elections 2021 Municipal elections 2021 Review of voting in the Municipal elections Over one-half of voters voted in advance Statistics Finland releases information on the background of persons who voted in the Municipal elections 2021. The voting turnout in the elections was 55.1 per cent, which was the lowest since the 1945 Municipal elections. Clearly over one-half (60.0%) of those who voted cast their votes in advance. Detailed information about unit-level background factors on voting turnout is found in the review: Persons who voted in Municipal elections 2021.
