FRIDAY, SEPTEMBEROUTH 2, 2011 LAKE RESS50¢ NEWSSTAND S www.southlakepress.com P MASCOTTE CLERMONT Landfill: New firm, SAVAGE and EXTREME old issue ROXANNE BROWN | Staff Writer [email protected] Signs reading “Stop the Dump!” went up around town months ago amid rumors that a controversial proposal to build a landfill at Heron’s Glen off State Road 33 near Smith Road was being resubmitted. Waste Management Inc. withdrew its application in late 2010, following heated opposition by residents. The company never did resubmit its proposal but in May, when council members were discussing a zoning change that could allow landfills, the signs began to appear. Now, Golden Engineer- ing and Environmental Solutions, a company out of Orlando, has its sights set on the property, along with a proposal that also includes a landfill. An application was filed Aug. 22 with the city. “I can tell you that an VICTORIA ALDRICH / DAILY COMMERCIAL application was taken and ABOVE: Morgan Kane of Orlando, front, crawls under barbed wire and slogs through the Mud and Guts finale of has been provided to our the Savage Race.
