Rehoboam…13 The king answered them harshly. Rejecting the advice of and Spiritual... and then chose the path of Stupidful... ! the elders, 14 he followed the advice of the young men…16 When all ! ! Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king: !* Simple… “What share do we have in David, what part in Jesse’s son?”… So all the 2 Chronicles 13 1 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam, Israelites went home. 17 But as for the Israelites who were living in the [Rehoboam’s son] became king of Judah... 2 There was war towns of Judah, Rehoboam still ruled over them...19 So Israel has been in between Abijah and Jeroboam. 4 Abijah stood on Mount Zemaraim, rebellion against the house of David to this day. in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Jeroboam and all Israel, ! listen to me! 5 Don’t you know that the Lord, the God of Israel, has * Spiritual… given the kingship of Israel to David and his descendants forever by a ! covenant of salt? 6 Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat, an official of :1 When Rehoboam arrived in Jerusalem, he mustered Solomon son of David, rebelled against his master. 7 Some worthless Judah and Benjamin…to go to war against Israel and to regain the scoundrels gathered around him and opposed Rehoboam son of kingdom for Rehoboam. 2 But this word of the Lord came to Shemaiah Solomon when he was young and indecisive and not strong enough the man of God: 3 “Say to Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and to resist them. to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, 4 ‘This is what the Lord says: Do not ! go up to fight against your fellow Israelites. Go home, every one of you, !Wavering between Sensitive, Scornful and Spiritual... for this is my doing.’” So they obeyed the words of the Lord and turned :1 Rehoboam went to , for all Israel had !back from marching against Jeroboam… gone there to make him king. 2 When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard 13 The priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel sided this (he was in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), he with Rehoboam…16 Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts returned from Egypt. 3 So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and all on seeking the Lord, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him: 4 “Your father put a heavy to offer sacrifices to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. 17 They yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of !put on us, and we will serve you.” !Solomon three years… !* Sensitive… 21 Rehoboam…had eighteen wives and sixty concubines… 22 He 5 Rehoboam answered, “Come back to me in three days.” So the appointed Abijah son of Maakah as crown prince among his brothers, in people went away. 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who order to make him king. 23 He acted wisely, dispersing some of his sons had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How would you throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to the fortified cities. advise me to answer these people?” he asked. 7 They replied, “If you ! will be kind to these people and please them and give them a * Stupidful… favorable answer, they will always be your servants.” ! ! :1 After Rehoboam’s position as king was established and * Scornful… he had become strong, he and all Israel with him abandoned the law of ! the Lord. 5 Then the prophet Shemaiah came to Rehoboam and to the 8 But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and leaders of Judah and he said to them, “This is what the Lord says, ‘You consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to .’” serving him. 9 He asked them, “What is your advice?…” ! ! !* Sensitive/Spiritual… 6 The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is just.”…12 Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned from him, and he was not totally destroyed. Indeed, there was some good in Judah. 13 King Rehoboam established himself firmly in Jerusalem and continued as king. He was forty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel in which to put his !Name. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite. !This was the conclusion God gave of Rehoboam’s life... 14 He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord... !16 And Abijah his son succeeded him as king. !How can this help us…?! We all have immature areas of our lives… we are simple in some... scornful in others... spiritual in others... and we waver A LOT… !But we sure don’t want to end like Rehoboam did… !So…In areas where we’re just not that strong… !1. Be Careful about who you Follow !!! Ps. 1:1-6 Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked !Proverbs 24:6 For by wise guidance you can wage your war !2. Be Conscious of how you might Fall !!! 1 Cor. 10:12 …If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. pride/greed/lust/power… 1 John 2:15 Do not love the world or anything in the world…16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and !the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. !3. Be Convicted so you might Flourish !!! !12 Because Rehoboam humbled himself, the Lord’s anger turned from him 1 Peter 5:5 …You who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may !lift you up in due time.
