In Memory of George (“Frank”) and Bobbie Campbell Bob and Joanne Williams yt)d )ml(l yymdq Kl Nynqtm )yb+ Kydbw( rg) (Tg. Neof. Gen 15:1) Preface The present work grew out of my doctoral thesis (published as Persecution in 1 Peter: Differentiating and Contextualizing Early Christian Suffering [NovTSup 145; Leiden: Brill, 2012]), in which I attempted to challenge the modern consensus on the nature of persecution addressed by 1 Peter. In doing so, I discussed the vari- ous causes of conflict represented in the epistle. One of the causes, as I understand it, was the fact that the readers had been performing “good works” within their Anatolian communities. In this discussion, I mentioned that most modern interpret- ers have come to an agreement concerning the referent behind these good deeds (viz., that “doing good” involved acts which were favorably recognized by Gre- co-Roman society and thus which should have received a positive response from outsiders), and then I briefly proposed a “new perspective” for understanding this important motif. Given the spatial limitations, however, this idea was left undevel- oped, being suggested more than demonstrated. The present work is meant to serve as a full demonstration and extension of this earlier proposal. The reason why I feel that a full-length monograph on this subject is so important is because of how wide-ranging this consensus is among Petrine interpreters. In the introduction, I purposefully cite and quote a large number of interpreters as a way of showing just how deeply-ingrained this view has become within Petrine studies. Given how strongly the consensus opinion is held, it would take much more to refute it than the brief comments which were previously set forth. Yet, I feel that a chal- lenge is necessary. The importance lies in its effect on the overall reading of 1 Peter: whereas my previous efforts were meant alter how interpreters approach the prob- lem behind the epistle, this works attempts to reshape how we understand the au- thor’s social strategy in addressing this problem. I would like to express my gratitude to the editors of Wissenschaftliche Untersu- chungen zum Neuen Testament, Prof. Dr. Jörg Frey (Editor) and Prof. James A. Kelhoffer (Associate Editor), for their willingness to accept my work into this pres- tigious series, and to Dr. Henning Ziebritzki (Editorial Director, Theology and Jew- ish Studies) and his excellent editorial staff for their able assistance. It has been a pleasure to work with everyone at Mohr Siebeck. Portions of this study have appeared elsewhere. Part of Chapter Four and Appen- dix One earlier appeared as “Benefiting the Community through Good Works? The Economic Feasibility of Civic Benefaction in 1 Peter,” Journal of Greco-Roman Christianity and Judaism 9 (2013) 147–195. I am grateful to Sheffield Phoenix Press VIII Preface for permission to reproduce the material here. Likewise, a brief section in Chapter Seven appeared as “Reading Social Conflict through Greek Grammar: Reconciling the Difficulties of the Fourth-Class Condition in 1 Pet 3,14,”Filología Neotestamen- taria 26 (2013) 119–160. I am grateful to Ediciones El Alemendro de Córdoba, S.L. for permission to reproduce the material here. Many people have contributed to my thinking about the theme of this book. Most of all, David G. Horrell has been a close friend and mentor as well as a constant source of encouragement. Having read an early draft of the work, he offered many valuable suggestions for its improvement, and he continues to be a wise sounding board off which I can bounce all of my ideas about 1 Peter. I would also like to thank David M. Shaw for proof-reading the entire Manuscript. I also wish to acknowledge and offer my sincere thanks to everyone at Tusculum College. Both the administration and the faculty have been extremely supportive of the project from the beginning. I am especially appreciative of the faculty and staff of the Thomas J. Garland Library for all of their assistance. Charles Tunstall (Refer- ence/Instructional Service Librarian), in particular, has been an invaluable resource during the process of my research, chasing down obscure titles and processing a seemingly innumerable amount of inter-library loan requests. Finally, I want to thank my wife, Amy, and my sons, Bryce and Trent, for all of their support. While work on this project has occasionally taken away from our time together, their patience has been an encouragement throughout the whole process. I am truly grateful for their sacrifice. This work is dedicated in memory of my grand- parents (George “Frank” and Bobbie Campbell; Bob and Joanne Williams), whose lives were marked by a devotion to God and a commitment to good works. • Studies on Decapod Crustacea from the Indian River Region of Florida
JOURNAL OF CRUSTACEAN BIOLOGY, 1(1): 28-50, 1981 STUDIES ON DECAPOD CRUSTACEA FROM THE INDIAN RIVER REGION OF FLORIDA. XX. MICROPANOPE BARBADENSIS (RATHBUN, 1921): THE COMPLETE LARVAL DEVELOPMENT UNDER LABORATOR Y CONDITIONS (BRACHYURA, XANTHIDAE) Robert H. Gore, Cindy Lee Van Dover, and Kim A . Wilson ABSTRACT The complete larval development of Micropanope barbadensis (Rathbun, 1921) , a small , western Atlantic, coral-inhabiting xanthid crab, is described and illustrated based on larvae reared in the laboratory. The species passed through 3 or 4 zoeal and one megalopal stage over a 24-32 day period at 20°e. At 15 and 25°C the larvae did not survive beyond the first or second stage, respectively. The duration of abbreviated and normal development periods is discussed. Zoeae of Micropanope barbadensis exhibit an antennal exopod:protopod ratio intermedia te in length and are therefore not assignable to any of the four categories delineated by Aikawa. A fifth category , Group E , is proposed. Criteria used to distinguish larvae of the genus Micropanope from other xanthid genera, as well as the taxonomic position of M. barbadensis. are considered. This is the fir st specie s in the genus Micropanope senSII {af o for which the complete larval development in the laboratory has been obtained. The genus Micropanope is a widely distributed, essentially tropical taxon of very small crabs, many species of which are associated with coral or coralline substrata. Rathbun (1930) listed about 9 or 10 species from the western Atlantic, but the systematics of the genus requires revision, so the ultimate number remains presently in doubt.

Kremna Antik Kenti Kuzey Yayılımı Hakkında İlk Gözlemler Preliminary Observations About North Territorium Of The Cremna Ancient City Yrd. Karadiğin’in korsan yerleşimi olabileceği düşünülmüştür. Abstract In this study, the northern territorium of the Cremna ancient city was evaluated. Large majority of settlement are grouped around mountainside. For this reason, the topography is a factor that determines the settlements. It has been understood that İnarası in these settlements demonstrated continuous settlement from the Prehistoric Period to Early Byzantine. It has also been determined that İnarası is a religious center for the region. Keraita is one of the settlements where the rural population predominates. It has been thought that Karadiğin is a settlement occupied by pirates. Hisarköy/Asartepe forms a boundary of the Cremna northern territorium. By LUTHER W. WELSH, A. M., M. D., Kansas City, Mo. Lambert Moon Printing Co. Independence, Mo. 1928 PREFACE. The writing of this ibook has been a labor of love to its author. The families given, with probably one exception, are his own ancestral families, and ,as such he has studied them with a regard for accuracy not always found in works of unrelated professionals. It is not pos sible to avoid all error in a work of this kind, from inadvertence or limited information, but it is believed such errors have been reduced to the minimum. The author will gladly welcome corrections. In the "Genealogy of the Welsh and Hy,att Families" he has sought to conserve in permanent form the many records he has gath ered in the research of years, many of which otherwise would become pevmanently lost to these families. The intrinsic value of genealogy, ihowever, fromJ the biologioal standpoint, does not lie in any one or two ancestral sources, but in all the elements that have contributed to the formation of the individual life and character. Hence, in the "Colonial Generations of Kindred Families," is given something of the origin and early history of these families-all of whom have been notivbly prominent in Md. history-whose blood strains have entered into and become a component part of the life-stream of almost all of the in dividual families who are represented herein.
