9 to 5 The Musical, with music and lyrics by and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the seminal 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Plot Pushed to the boiling point, Violet, Judy, and Doralee form a strong female triumvirate through their mutual dissatisfaction with workplace conditions and especially obnoxious office boss Franklin Hart, Jr. They concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. In a hilarious turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee live out their wildest fantasy – giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains "otherwise engaged," the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down. Hey, a girl can scheme, can't she?

PREPARING FOR YOUR AUDITION

 Preparation is the key to a good audition – you need to prepare the material required for the character (s) that you are going to be auditioning for.  Come on time, with a great attitude. Don’t make excuses.  Do your homework on the show – know the plot and characters  Bring water.  Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your audition so you can relax and get settled.

WHAT TO WEAR Please dress as neutrally as possible. Wear clothes that are comfortable and that you can move in. Dance wear is okay. For females - chorus shoes if you have them. Please have your hair off your face.

ACTING PREPARATION – Download the Script from the LMS Website  People auditioning for leads may be requested to demonstrate both an American and ‘neutral’ accent during their auditions.  Leads may be asked questions about their understanding of the character.  You should be very familiar with the acting pieces - if you need the page then use it, but it is better to be to be off book.  While people going for an Ensemble role don’t have to read an acting excerpt – you may be asked sing the audition song in a particular manner to demonstrate you acting ability.

DANCE PREPARATION – Download the Dance Audition Video from the LMS Website  When learning the sample piece take note that the camera is front on, so it's not a mirror image that you are learning (for example, you start with the right foot in front. Don’t learn it facing the camera otherwise you will be on the left foot)  Trained dancers are expected to show an additional 30sec of their own work. This can be a competition item of your own dance choice for example - it's only an excerpt to highlight your key strengths. If you can please include allegro (jumps), turns and any floor work - that way I can see a range of movement. Ballet, modern, neo classical, jazz, Broadway, tap, national dance are acceptable.  For those that aren't trained dancers, don't stress about the sample video. Please attempt as much as possible. The aim is to see what you can do. Trying means everything. It will demonstrate how committed you are at having a go and working hard. SINGING PREPARATION – Download the score from the LMS Website  Vocally, you need to do at least a 20 min warm up before arriving for your audition and know the excerpts from memory.  Auditions are for us to see potential not the end product, so don't be scared but be prepared!  Try to add as much characterisation as possible.  Ensemble will need to be confident with singing harmonies and will be asked to demonstrate this through either voicing of the song (SATB) or aural tests.
