INSECT PESTS IN BEECH FORESTS IN SERBIA Abstract: Altogether 142 phytophagous insect species have so far been identified from beech stands in Serbia. Six species or 4.2% are significant pests of beech, of which three (Phyllap- his fagi L., Cryptococus fagisuga Lind and Rhynchaenus fagi L.) are oligophages and speci- fic of beech, and the remaining three (Lymantria dispar L., Operophthera brumata Hbn. and Erannis defoliaria L.) are wide polyphages and cause high damage also to beech stands during outbreaks. 17 species or 12,0% occur in less numerous populations, but they can sometimes cause some damage. The remaining 119 species or 83.8% are for the time being without economic significance for beech stands in Serbia. Key words: Fagus spp, entomophauna, Serbia 1. One pripadaju svezi Fagion moesiacum Bleø. et L. i podsve- zama: Fagenion moesiacae submontanum, F.moesiacae montanum, F. moesiacae altimontanum, F.moesiacae subalpinum, Abieti-Fagenion moesiacae, Ostryo- Fagenion moesiacae, Corylo colurnae - Fagenion moesiacae i Luzulo - Fage- nion moesiacae. Zatim je graniønu zonu oko takvih mesta naseqavao bukvin krasac (Agrilus viridis L.) i potkorwak (Taphrorynchus bicolor H r b s t.) Ovo je daqe omoguõavalo veõi priliv svetlosti dubqe u sastojinu i nastavak veõ opisanog ulanøavawa åtetnih faktora (Va siõ, K., et al, 1986). U sastojinama bukve u istoønoj Srbiji (Majdanpeøka domena) u toku 1973. godine prvi put je u naåoj zemqi zabeleÿena pojava bolesti kore bukve (M a r i n k o v i õ , P., K a r a d ÿ i õ , D, 1985). Izazivaju je dva åtetna orga- nizma: insekt, bukvin åtitaå Cryptococcus fagisuga L i n d i n g e r i gqiva Nectria coccinea (P e r s . ex Fr.). Lepidoptera, Sesiidae, endemics, widespread species, macro-ecology, spatial auto-regression, latitudinal gradient, longitudinal gradient, coherence, range size, postglacial colonization Abstract. Although the sizes of the geographical ranges of plant and animal species are of major interest to macroecologists, the spa- tial distributions and environmental correlates of only a small group of animals and plants are well studied. Here data on the spatial distributions of 116 European clearwing moths (Sesiidae) was used to determine the patterns in spatial distribution, postglacial colo- nization and endemism. The spatial distributions of sesiids are significantly more coherent and there are fewer isolated occurrences and unexpected absences than predicted by a random sample null model. After correcting for environmental correlates, islands and mainland countries did not differ significantly in the number of species with small ranges. Polyphagous wood attending species were more widespread than those with other life histories. Species of Siberian origin had wider ranges than those of Mediterranean origin. Nestedness and species co-occurrence analysis did not support a unidirectional postglacial colonization from a Southern European refuge but colonization from both Southern and Eastern Europe.

Lasˇtu˚vka & A. Lasˇtu˚vka Abstract An annotated list of the Iberian Peninsula Sesiidae is presented. Synanthedon flaviventris (Staudinger, 1883) is new for Spain and the Iberian Peninsula, and S. scoliaeformis (Borkhausen, 1789) is new for Portugal. First concrete occurrence data on Sesia bembeciformis (Hübner, [1806]) are given from Spain. New province records are given of 32 species (about 200 new province records in all). 53 species of the family Sesiidae are known in the Iberian Peninsula (53 in Spain and 32 in Portugal), taxonomic status or level of 3 taxa is as yet unclear (Synanthedon cruciati, Bembecia psoraleae, Pyropteron muscaeformis lusohispanica). The distribution of individual species in the Peninsula is evaluated and a zoogeographical analysis is performed.

Key words: Lepidoptera, Sesiidae, world literature.

FOLIA HISTORICO NATURALIA MUSEI MATRAENSIS 2003 27: 289–309 Az Északi-középhegység üvegszárnyú lepkefaunája (Microlepidoptera: Sesiidae) FAZEKAS IMRE ABSTRACT: [The clearwing moth’s fauna of the North-Hungarian Mountains (Microlepidoptera, Sesiidae)] – The author plans to describe the Sesiidae fauna of great geographical units in Hungary. Present study is the second part of general revision of the Sesiidae of Hungarians. It revises the earlier literature and collections. It the present study I provide a checklist of the synonyms of valid names of the North-Hungarian Mountain species. The faunistic and phenological data of 30 species are reviewed with an analysis of the habitat distri- bution according to the ecological landscape types. The conservation status of each is indicated. The UTM Grid code of each locality is given. Figures of the genitalia and wing pattern of several species which are dif- ficult to determine are given. Bevezetés A közelmúltban megkezdtem a magyarországi természetföldrajzi régiók Sesiidae faunájának feldolgozását. Eddig a Dél-Dunántúl üvegszárnyú lepkéinek összefoglalója készült el (FAZE- KAS 2003), s folyamatban van a Dunántúli-középhegység fajainak feldolgozása. Jelen mun- kámban az Északi-középhegységbõl kimutatott fajok adatait összesítem a területre vonatko- zó irodalmak és saját kutatásaim alapján. A középhegységi Sesiidaek gyűjtésének kezdetei a 19. század végéig nyúlnak vissza. A te- rületen szinte minden lepidopterológus gyűjtött üvegszárnyú lepkéket, de a vizsgálati ered- mények kiértékelése – a névjegyzékbe való felvételen kívül – ez idáig nem történt meg (ÁCS & SZABÓKY 1993; BALOGH 1967; ISSEKUTZ 1955b; ISSEKUTZ 1956; JABLONKAY 1972; KOVÁCS 1953; KOVÁCS 1956; LAŠTŮVKA 1990; LIPTHAY 1961; RONKAY & SZABÓKY 1981; SZABÓKY 1999). LIPTHAY Béla, Nógrád megye első természettudományos muzeológusa (HÍR & MÉ- SZÁROS 1994) is foglalkozott a Sesiidae fajokkal.

  • Environmental Correlates of Species Richness of Sesiidae (Lepidoptera) in Europe
Eur. J. Entomol. 107: 563–570, 2010 http://www.eje.cz/scripts/viewabstract.php?abstract=1567 ISSN 1210-5759 (print), 1802-8829 (online) Environmental correlates of species richness of Sesiidae (Lepidoptera) in Europe 1 2 3 MAREK BĄKOWSKI , WERNER ULRICH and ZDENċK LAŠTģVKA 1Adam Mickiewicz University, Department of Systematic Zoology, Umultowska 89, 61-614 PoznaĔ, Poland; e-mail: [email protected] 2Nicolaus Copernicus University in ToruĔ, Department of Animal Ecology, Gagarina 9, 87-100 ToruĔ, Poland; e-mail: [email protected] 3Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno, Department of Zoology, Fisheries, Hydrobiology and Apidology, ZemČdČlská 1, 613 00 Brno, Czech Republic; e-mail: [email protected] Key words. Lepidoptera, Sesiidae, species-area relationship, rhizophagous, xylophagous, macroecology, spatial autoregression, latitudinal gradient Abstract. Recent compilations of species richness for 54 European countries and large islands and linear spatial autocorrelation modelling were used to infer the influence of area and environmental variables on the number of species of clearwing moths (Sesii- dae) in Europe. Area corrected species richness of rhizophagous Sesiidae peaked at about 40°N and decreased towards higher and lower latitudes. Most species rich was Greece (45 species), Bulgaria (37), Italy (35) and Romania (35). The area corrected species richness of xylophagous Sesiidae peaked at about 45°N with France (24) and Italy (22) being most species rich. Species richness was significantly positively correlated with area and the average yearly difference in temperature, and significantly negatively correlated with latitude. Island and mainland SAR slopes did not differ significantly, however island species richness per unit area appeared to be about 2 to 2.5 times lower than mainland species richness.

  • Lepidoptera) in Turkey
©Biologiezentrum Linz/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at Linzer biol. Beitr. 39/2 929-953 18.12.2007 Data on the Geographic Distribution of Sesiidae (Lepidoptera) in Turkey T. GARREVOET, W. GARREVOET & H. ÖZBEK A b s t r a c t : Detailed distributional data based on material collected and observations made on Sesiidae predominantly in eastern Turkey from 2001 to 2006, are presented. Special attention is paid to species that are endangered and should get the "Red List" status. In particular two species, Pyropteron cirgisa (BARTEL 1912) and Chamaesphecia palustris KAUTZ 1927 were found to be critically endangered and urgent measures to protect their habitats are proposed. Where suitable, the agro- economical importance of some species is discussed. Two species, Pyropteron atypica KALLIES & ŠPATENKA 2003 and Dipchasphecia consobrina (LE CERF 1938), are recorded for the Turkish fauna for the first time. Synanthedon armeniaca GORBUNOV 1991 is here introduced as a new synonym of Synanthedon myopaeformis (BORKHAUSEN 1789). Bembecia mira GORBUNOV & ŠPATENKA 2001 as a new synonym of Bembecia scopigera (SCOPOLI 1763) and Bembecia zuvandica GORBUNOV 1987 as a new synonym of Bembecia apyra (LE CERF 1937). Finally, the taxon transcaucasica (STAUDINGER 1891) is here regarded a subspecies of Bembecia sanguinolenta (LEDERER 1853) (stat.nov.) while turcmena (BARTEL 1912) is considered a subspecies of Bembecia pontica (STAUDINGER 1891) (stat. rev.). K e y w o r d s : Lepidoptera, Sesiidae, distribution, new records, new synonyms, Turkey. Introduction The Sesiidae (clearwings) are a large family of Lepidoptera, with almost 1400 valid species described worldwide (LAŠTŮVKA & LAŠTŮVKA 2001, PÜHRINGER & KALLIES 2004). Although they prefer warm climates and are well represented in semi-arid to arid environments, they occur on all continents except Antarctica.

Umultowska 89, 61-614 Poznań; e-mail: [email protected] 2 Hańsk I, ul. Polna 5, 22-235 Hańsk, e-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT: Synanthedon spuleri (FUCHS, 1908) was found in the south–eastern part of Poland. The species is new to the Polish fauna. This is the northernmost locality in the whole distribution area in Europe. KEY WORDS: Lepidoptera, Sesiidae, Synanthedon spuleri, new records, E Poland Wstęp W trakcie badań Sesiidae południowo-wschodniej części Polesia Lubel- skiego stwierdzono po raz pierwszy z Polski gatunek Synanthedon spuleri (Fuchs, 1908).
