Films can be streamed from any computer, television, or mobile device!

On your Computer

 Go to our website www.poblib.org  Under the eMedia dropdown menu, click eMedia.  Click on Kanopy.  You can create an account by clicking Sign Up in the top right corner and enter your name, email, and password.

 You will also need your library card number.  The top right corner of the screen shows the allotment of material you can watch. You can watch up to 10 titles per month. It will reset the first of every month.

 You can search for movies by name by clicking the magnifying glass next to the search bar. Or you can click Browse next to the search bar and look through the different genre lists.

 You can access your account by clicking on your name in the top right corner, you will also find your Watchlist and History (where you can finish watching a movie you had previously started) under your name.

 To watch a title, hover your curser over the movie, and click Watch and then Play.

 You can pause the video by clicking pause, add captions by clicking the CC on the left of the screen, or make the movie screen full size by clicking the full size icon next to the CC (to exit full screen mode just hit the Esc key in the top left corner of the keyboard).

 To go back to the home screen, you can either click the back button or click on the Kanopy logo in the top left corner.

On your Mobile Device

 Download the Kanopy app from the App Store or Google Play Store.  Open the app.  Either Sign Up with your name, email, and password or Sign In with your email and password.

 You will also have to enter your library card number  If this is your first time signing into the app, you can choose to either allow notifications or to not allow notifications. Whichever you choose is fine.

 The top right corner of the screen shows the allotment of material you can watch. You can watch up to 10 titles per month. It will reset the first of every month.

 You can search for movies by name by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner.

 You can also search by tapping the three line icon in the top left corner and scrolling through the different genre lists.

 You can access your Account, your Watchlist, Continue Watching list, and Kanopy Kids by tapping the three line icon in the top left corner as well.

 To watch a title, tap the cover of your choice and then tap the red triangle play button to begin.

 You can pause by tapping the pause button at the bottom of the screen.

 You can also add captions by tapping the speech bubble in the top right corner of a currently playing movie and select what language subtitles you would like.

 To exit the movie, tap the title in the top left corner to go back; you can finish watching a movie later by going to your Continue Watching list. You have up to 3 days to watch each title.

On your TV

You can watch Kanopy on your TV by either streaming it through your mobile device or using an HDMI cable connected to your laptop.

Streaming:

 If your TV is not able to stream, you will need to purchase either an Apple TV, Chromecast, or an Amazon Fire Stick and connect one of these devices to the proper port on your TV.

 Switch your TV to the correct input channel. You should be able to use the Input button on your TV's remote control to select the right one.

 To stream the movie, first make sure your Wifi is turned on.

 Then on your mobile device, select the title you would like and begin to play the opening credits, and then Pause the movie. In the top right corner of the screen (next to the caption icon ) you will see the streaming icon that looks like this (apple) or this (android), (This icon might be different for Samsung). Tap that and then select the device you want to connect to.

 It should connect automatically, and begin playing on the device you selected. To pause and exit, you will need to refer back the buttons on the mobile device.

HDMI:

 You will need to own or purchase an HDMI cable, or the equivalent cable for a Mac computer.

 Attach the HDMI cable to your TV. You will find HDMI ports on all newer televisions (typically on the side or back panels). Plug the HDMI cable into one of the ports (e.g. HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc).

 Attach the other end of the HDMI cable to your computer/laptop.

 Set your TV settings to the HDMI port. Change the input source setting on your TV to the HDMI port you are using with the cord.

 Once connected, your computer screen will be mirrored to your TV screen. Continue to use Kanopy as you would normally on your computer. All actions, including video playback, will be mirrored to your TV screen.

 If you are seeing any cropping of the picture on your TV screen, try changing the aspect ratio of your TV display to adjust this. 7/2020
