Xinglin Institute Shanghan Lun Studies Curriculum Stephen Boyanton Last Update: 6/2014 Xinglin Institute Shanghan lun Studies Curriculum Stephen Boyanton Last Update: 6/2014 The Xinglin Institute Shanghan lun curriculum is designed to give students a solid foundation in the clinical application of the Shanghan lun (Treatise on Cold Damage 傷寒論), arguably the single most important text in Chinese herbal medicine. The curriculum is designed in the belief that the traditional method of studying the Shanghan lun remains the most effective. Participants are guided through the text line by line, resolving the many difficulties the text presents to a reader, examining the major disagreements over the meaning of the lines, and striving to understand the clinical application of this important text in detail. The goal of this immersive method of studying the Shanghan lun is to help the participants develop a deep personal relationship with the text. It is this relationship which allows skilled clinicians to continue developing throughout their careers and supports their decision-making in the clinics. The curriculum is composed of seventeen 3-hour sessions for a total of 51 hours of class-time. Although these classes are offered independently, it is strongly recommended that participants take the classes in the core program in order. For those familiar with older versions of this curriculum, the formula intensive classes have been moved to a separate curriculum devoted to Classical Formula Studies, which will be offered after the curriculum on the Jingui yaolue (Essentials of the Golden Coffer 金匱要略), the sister-text of the Shanghan lun. Reply to comments on “The Challenge to NOX Emission Control for Heavy-duty Diesel Vehicles in China” by S. Zhang et al “Black” means the comments from reviewer and “Blue” text are our responses. We are deeply grateful to the referees of this paper for the very helpful comments. These comments are fully understood by the authors and individually responded to. Our responses to the comments are listed below. Reply to comments from Anonymous Referee #1: Overall Comments: My overall comments are favorable. I thought the paper presented interesting results of the use of a vehicle emission model to infer the dominant sources of vehicle pollution in Macao, as well as the potential use of traffic information linked to an emission model and air dispersion model to inform environmental and transportation policy. My major comment on the content of the paper, is that the authors need to provide more information into how the emissions and air quality concentrations were estimated are estimated. For example, the paper is unclear on how the vehicle split by link is estimated, how the speeds are estimated and applied in the vehicle emission model, and how the ‘fleet average’ emission rates in Table 4 are estimated. Also the comment Printer-friendly version Discussion paper discussion on the air dispersion modeling is very limited. We appreciate the referee’s favorable comments. According to specific comment on the method and data details, we try out best to inform the readers of the estimation of fleet split and speed profiles (e.g., Equations 3, 5 and 6, see Page 7), the development of local emission factors (e.g., Page 9 to Page 10).

This research is an attempt to unfold the current situation of women’s development within such context by studying the case of Guangdong -- the province as forerunner of China’s economic reform and opening-up -- drawing on current primary resources. First, this study reveals mixed results for women’s development in Guangdong: achievements have been made in education, employment and political participation in terms of “rates” and “numbers,” and small “breakthroughs” have taken place in legislation and women’s awareness of their equal rights and interests; however, limitations and challenges, like disparities between different women groups in addition to gender disparity, continue to exist.
