On 15 November, the original line, T1 (St- Denis – Noisy-le-Sec), was to expand at its western end by 4.9km (three miles) from Saint- Denis RER to Asnieres-Gennevilliers, with ten new stops. The existing fleet of 35 Alstom TFS partially low-floor trams (101-119 and 201-216) will suffice for the extended service. A few days later, on 19 November, line T2 (Porte de Versailles – La Defense) will be extended north by 4.2km (2.6 miles) from La Defense to Pont de Bezons, with seven new stops; 19 new Alstom Citadis 302 trams (442-460) were delivered some months ago ready for this extension. Then on 15 December line T3 (Pont du Garigliano – Porte d’Ivry) will be extended by 14.5km (nine miles) around the eastern side of the inner boulevards from Porte d’Ivry to Porte de Chapelle. The 22.4km (13.9- mile) line will be operated in two sections: T3a from Pont du Garigliano to Porte de Vincennes and T3b from Porte de Vincennes to Porte de Chapelle.     Dubai [Metro]polis: Infrastructural Landscapes and Urban Utopia When Dubai Metro was launched in 2009, it became a new catalyst for urban change but also a modern tool to interact with the city - providing a visual experience and an unprecedented perception of moving in space and time, almost at the edge between the imaginary and the real. By drawing on the traditional association between train, perception and the city we argue that the design and planning of Dubai Metro is intended as a signifier of modernity for the Gulf region, with its futuristic designs and in the context of the local socio-cultural associations. NADIA MOUNAJJED INTRODUCTION Abu Dhabi University For the last four decades, Dubai epitomized a model for post-oil Gulf cities and positioned itself as a subject for visionary thinking and urban experimentation. PAOLO CARATELLI During the years preceding 2008, Dubai became almost a site of utopia - evoking Abu Dhabi University a long tradition of prolific visionary thinking about the city – particularly 1970s utopian projects. Today skyscrapers, gated communities, man-made islands, iconic buildings and long extended waterfronts, dominate the cityscape.     RKH Qitarat, composed of RATP Dev, Keolis and Hamad Group, opened Doha Metro Red Line South On 8 May 2019, RKH Qitarat, the joint venture consisting of RATP Dev, Keolis and Hamad Group 1, opened the first section of the Doha metro to the public. This follows the award in December 2017 by Qatar Rail of a contract to operate and maintain Qatar’s first urban rail transport network for a period of 20 years. The network includes three automated metro lines in Doha, the Qatari capital, and four tram lines located in the city of Lusail. On 8 May 2019, the Doha Metro Red Line South opened to the public. Initial operation includes 13 out of 18 stations of the line, which will connect Al Qassar in the North to Al Wakrah in the South. For this first stage of the launch, service will be ensured from Sunday to Thursday, from 8am to 11pm. It is an important stage for testing the Doha Metro system with passengers, providing an opportunity to evaluate and review the performance in preparation for the full operation of the network in 2020. This major urban project is of crucial importance for the region as 90% of the Qatari population currently live in Doha and its surrounding suburbs (equivalent to 2.6 million people). Qatar wants to make the city of Doha more attractive to visitors and facilitate the daily journeys of the population as the country prepares for the post-fuel extraction era. The Doha metro will be completely automated and driverless, incorporating three lines (Red, Green and Gold) 75km of track and 37 stations.

Over the recent decades due to increasing population and developing industrial zones, the demands are growing up over time. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is now embarking on one of the largest modern cross-border rail networks in the world. This is an ambitious step regarding the planning and establishment of the rail network connecting all the six GCC countries. This railway network will go through at least one city in each country to link the cities of Kuwait in Kuwait, Dammam in Saudi Arabia, Manama in Bahrain, Doha in Qatar, the cities of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates and Sohar and then Muscat in Oman in terms of cargo and passengers. The area of investigation covers different aspects of the shared Arabian countries rail routes called ‘GCC line’ and their national rail network. The aim of this article is to study the existing future plans and policies of the GCC countries shared line and domestic railway network. This article studies the national urban (light rail transportation (LRT), metro (subways) and intercity rail transportation to appraise the potential of passenger movement and commodity transportation at present and in the future.

Background 2. On 22 April 2008, the Chief Executive-in-Council decided to invite the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) to proceed with further planning and design of the Hong Kong section of XRL. Subsequently, the railway scheme was gazetted under the Railways Ordinance on 28 November and 5 December 2008 and the MTRCL started the detailed design in January 2009. To address concerns expressed by members of the public during the consultation period and to incorporate design changes, we gazetted the amendments to the railway scheme on 30 April and 8 May 2009. We also briefed this Subcommittee on the project on 14 May 2009. The XRL 3. The XRL is an express rail of about 140km long linking up Hong Kong with Guangzhou via Futian and Longhua in Shenzhen and Humen in Dongguan. Its terminus in Guangzhou (hereinafter referred to as the "New Guangzhou Passenger Station") will be located at Shibi, the centre of the Guangzhou - Foshan metropolitan area. The terminus of the Hong Kong section is located in West Kowloon, an area in vicinity of commercial and tourist areas. The Hong Kong section of the XRL will be an underground rail corridor of 26 km in length connecting the Mainland section in Huanggang.
