"European cinema is in better shape. Our films are circulating more in Europe, particularly thanks to the MEDIA programme, European films are regular global successes, and there is a young generation of talented directors. But we must be realistic and not rest on our laurels: the market share for national and European films is still far from sufficient in each country, the massive effort put into promoting films from the United States when they are released in Europe is all too rarely put into European films, while too little is done to develop education for young people in the visual image in general and in the cinema in particular", said Viviane Reding today at a press conference in Brussels to launch Cined@ys.
