The intention of taking the interview was to know Sarojini Sahoo’s views on Feminism as the research work was focused on short stories written by her from a feminist perspective. Though it was difficult meeting her physically, the interview was taken through electronic media. Her frank and direct answers throw light on her views and her approach towards her characters. 1. What made you choose the form of Short Story writing to express your views? Ans: “I write poems also but I don’t know why it seems that poetry is an incompetent media for me to express myself .I feel comfortable with fiction where I can open myself freely .I often use my poems within the fiction and critiques say my prose are more poetic. My first short story was published in the Sunday Supplement of an Odia newspaper when I was a high school student. My stories had been published in the Jhankar, a prestigious literary journal which only published the scholarly writings from reputed authors, when I was only an undergraduate student. In fact, even my teachers failed to publish there. In my teen age I met Jagadish Mohanty (my husband) as a pen friend. My interactions and study with Jagadish Mohanty, with whom I later fell in love and married, made me more serious about literature, especially fiction”. -

Research Journal of English Language and Literature (RJELAL) A Peer Reviewed (Refereed) International Journal Vol.3.Issue.1.2015 http://www.rjelal.com RESEARCH ARTICLE WRITINGS OF SAROJINI SAHOO: A REINFORCEMENT OF FEMALE INDIVIDUALISM IN POST INDEPENDENCE ERA SWASTIKA MUDULI LECTURER, DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH U.N.S MOHAVIDYALAYA, JAJPUR UTKAL UNIVERSITY ABSTRACT This present paper studies about the female individualism and its values rather than social values in the writings of Sarojini Sahoo. It focusses the priority given to individualism specifically to women in Odia literature. In Odia literature, a reader can see there is always a conflict between social values and individual values. This conflict can be seen from the first short story ‘Rebati’ by Fakir Mohan Senapati to till now. In nineteenth century, the social values are the domain factor in Odia fiction but in post-independence age, more individual value based fictions came to the light. Female individualism approached equality legally and the key concept of feminism with individualism--- such as equality, justice and class--- bear so little SWASTIKA MUDULI relation to the concepts as used by socialists.It is not merely a position on affirmative action or civil liberties. Abstract: Eternal Feminine is a concept rendered to elevate women to the goddess status by extolling certain qualities that satisfy the needs and desires of the male-dominated society. The research paper focuses on the eminence of Sahoo in deconstructing the applied patriarchal framework in her novel Goddess in Exile. The core scrutiny of the paper is to elucidate the eternal feminine theory and its hidden patriarchal agendas. The research paper further endeavours to contradict the theory of eternal feminine with Simone de Beauvoir’s idea of patriarchal domination exposed in “The Second Sex.” Sahoo’s novel illustrates on how even educated women in the 21st century become powerless to set herself free from oppression and subjugation. It is necessary to consider the immeasurable limits and submission set by the society for a woman to be praised and worshipped as a divine entity. -

ORISSA REFERENCE ANNUAL - 2004 EMINENT LITERARY LUMINARIES OF ORISSA JAYADEVA Jayadeva lived in the twelfth century and is well-known author of the musical epic Sri Geeta Govinda. He hailed from Kenduli village in the Prachi Valley between Bhubaneswar and Puri. He spent most of his life at Puri and composed the songs of Sri Geeta Govinda as musical offerings to Lord Jagannath. Padmavati his beloved wife, danced to the songs sang and choreographed by Jayadeva. The composition was probably performed first on the twin occasions of the dedication on the Srimandir and the coronation of Kamarnava as the crown prince in 1142 AD, during the reign of Chodaganga Deva, the founder of the great Ganga Empire in the east coast of India, Jayadeva, a great scholar and composer was a devotee first and a poet next. His Sri Geeta Govinda is a glorification of the essence of Jagannath Chetana or Jagannath Consciousness–the path of simple surrender, which later Sri Chaitanya popularized as the Gopi Bhava or the Radha Bhava. Gitagovinda has become the main prop of Odissi dance. It also has an enormous influence on the patta paintings of Raghurajpur. As a beautiful, ornate kavya, Gitagovinda received appreciation at home and abroad. Its sonorous diction and rhythmic musical excellence have created a unique place for it in world literature. Gitagovinda consists of twelve cantos or sargas including twenty- four songs and seventy- two slokas. It is designed to be sung in definite ragas and talas. It has been rightly observed that a narrative thread runs through the songs, lending it a dramatic structure.
