This wine is rich on the palate, with flavours of peach and ripe apples added to the notes of lime and herbs. Sixty percent of the juice was fermented in and aged four months in new French oak puncheons while the remainder was fermented in stainless steel. A small percentage of Semillon in the blend adds complexity. RED +036117 2016 SUMAS QUIS SIN CERA (MERLOT 95% PET. VERDOT 5%) WH - $22.00 / WINERY PRICE: 27.45 This is 95% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot is aged 18 months in 25% new, 50% 2nd fill and 25% 3rd fill French oak. On the nose is coffee, chocolate and black cherry, with lingering smoky Tobacco, cherry and black olive flavours. The wine was aged 12 months in French oak (30% new; 40% 2nd fill and 30% 3rd fill). This bold Pinot Noir begins with aromas of ripe plums mingled with hints of forest floor. On the palate, the flavours are dramatic and profound, showing notes of cherry and plum with a savoury and earthy note on the finish. (ASK ABOUT BACK VINTAGES & LARGE FORMAT). 20L keg $440 +860171 2017 CRONIE FAMILY VINEYARD PINOT NOIR WH- $26.56 / WINERY PRICE: 31.95 Howling Bluff has become a model BC wine producer, using no pesticides or chemical fungicides and working vigorously to become a net zero energy user by the early 2020s. It’s more impressive when you taste this pinot noir, and in particular, this delicious 2017 CRONIE FAMILY (beach) Vineyard. The site is all 777 and planted on a western sloping ancient seabed. A decade of vintages has given the family a historical base to meet every growing challenge and a chance to reflect on their use of wood, now down to roughly a year in wood, and that is split almost evenly between new, one-year-old and two-year-old barrels. Our wines are crafted exclusively from grapes grown on the Naramata Bench, and are predominantly single vineyard pressings. In 2006, we built Black Widow Winery and released our first single vineyard wines. Today our production averages 2,800 cases per year. The winery is built into a steep hillside, with 5 levels in total. This allows us to often use gravity for gentle movement of wine during production. Assisted by our 3 children, other family members, and friends, development of the property and business is an on-going project. We have a low intervention philosophy in wine making that focuses on the strength of the grapes that we use. De-stemmed, crushed and then soaked on the skins to extract flavour and aroma before gentle pressing. 15% of the must was barrel fermented in New French and American Oak while the remainder was fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The contributing wines were fermented in stainless steel tanks separately, then blended after fermentation to create a balanced, clean wine. Flavours or white grape, citrus and a subtle touch of spice are elevated on the palate with tiny bubbles. Similar to a Frizzante Prosecco in style and finished quite dry. 350 Cases Produced. 5 FRANCE BERGERAC CHÂTEAU LA BESAGE BERGERAC SUSTAINABLE/LUTTE RAISONEE The vineyard has been in the Le Naour family for 5 generations. Daniel and Nicolas Le Naour joined their father to help him 10 years ago. The property is located in South-West of Bergerac. While mostly unheard of, it was once of France's first appellations, formed in 1936. This Grand Cuvee is a blend of the classics: Cabernet and Merlot, and offers value we often don't think about from its prestigious neighbor. It is a savoury red with wild black berries, smoked meat, leather, graphite, black plum, carob and toasted spice aromas. The entry is supple and leads with flavours of charred cherries, which are layered with baking spice, leather and tobacco.
