Capital M The M restaurants were launched in over ten years ago, followed by M on the Bund in Shanghai. Capital M opened last year and as with all the M’s, boasts some of the best views in the city, this time over Tian’anmen Square. Food is Mediterranean, always consistent and sure to please. Some notable dishes include a salt encased lamb, smokehouse salmon and a pavlova that has made the dish famous amongst the Chinese. Our restaurant of choice if you’re craving a Western meal. Jaan Elegant French cuisine in the comfort of the Raffles Hotel. Beautiful period room with chandeliers and original ballroom floors takes you back in time to Beijing of the 1930’s. (CNY500-650 per person; approximately USD75-95)

Shanghai Tang Cafe Star chef Jereme Leung is the Executive Chef of the first restaurant venture of the fashion house. The menu is eclectic Chinese fare with such items as baked cod with spring onions. Jereme is one of the most innovative young chefs in China and is the lead consultant to the Chinese restaurant at the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. Also located within Xintiandi, but the dark interiors make the venue more suited for dinner than lunch. (CNY300-450 per person; approximately USD45-65)

Sir Elly’s Also located at the Peninsula Hotel, food is gourmet Western fare with a focus on ingredients. Gorgeous room overlooking the Bund and Huangpu River. (CNY500-650 per person; approximately USD75-95)

Yi Long Court Located inside the Peninsula Hotel, this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. Executive Chef Tang Chi Keung is one of the first Chinese chefs to be awarded a Michelin star. The food is classic Cantonese and ingredients are key as the delicate flavors allow no room for anything but the freshest of ingredients. For a real treat, book the private chef’s table which allows views into the bustling kitchen. (CNY400-550 per person; approximately USD55-80)

Jean Georges World renowned chef Jean Georges Vongerichten chose Shanghai for his first signature restaurant outside New York. Located on the 4th floor of the Three on the Bund building, the space is dark and elegant and is better for dinner. The menu is haute cuisine at its best, combining local flavors and ingredients into Vongerichten’s signature cuisine. (CNY500-650 per person; approximately USD75-95)

Laris Australian born David Laris creates menus that are not specific to any country, instead focusing on the freshest of ingredients. Also located at Three on the Bund, the space is brighter and slightly more casual than Jean Georges. Emphasis is on seafood, topped by a fabulous oyster bar. (CNY400-550 per person; approximately USD55-80)

New Heights A restaurant and bar located on the top floor of the Three in the Bund complex, this is for those seeking a more casual dining experience. Food is contemporary brasserie cuisine and good for lunch, with great views over the Huangpu River. (CNY300-450 per person; approximately USD45-65)
