Our School

Our school is in the village of Abercraf in the Upper Valley. Ysgol Y Cribarth first opened its doors on 10/9/12 to provide a safe, friendly, happy environment and a high standard of education to the pupils who previously attended four small village schools in , Abercraf, Penycae and Coelbren. Our school is away from cities and other busy places and has natural beauty. We care a lot about our world and our country, . We always try to work our hardest and we would like all pupils to come to school with a smile on their faces. We study many things like history, maths, science( which is fun with Mrs. Mulready), welsh, PE and RE.We have assemblies every day and on Thursday, we have a merit assembly. As a school we respect others and all staff. We care for our new and very precious school. We are all a big family, even though there are approximately 120 of us. We do feel that ,like home, school is always changing. Pupils and staff feel it is important to remember that we are a village school and frequently enjoy inviting the residents of the local community to visit the school and participate in various activities. We have lots of new equipment and up to date technology to provide us with bright classrooms and a large variety of resources in order for the pupils to achieve their full potential. We also have a large playground, hall, a library with many books and we also have computers in each class. We use our equipment sensibly and we don't mess about. We have a large car park in front of the school and when you enter the school, there is an information desk. On the left, there is the staff room and toilets. Adjacent to this there is the dining hall. On the right are the classrooms built with advanced techniques. This corridor has water fountains. We have made up our own school rules and class rules. We make sure we are safe by sticking to the rules. We are not allowed to open the door to strangers and we do not like bullying. We have good discipline and are respectful and kind to one another. The older pupils are to set an example to younger pupils. Our fire exits are clearly marked and if there is a problem we must go outside the building and wait until the problem is solved. We have a number of alarms and all outside doors are locked. We have excellent safety.

We have a school council which helps discuss things we may do to raise money for charity and other things like setting rules and deciding what toys or games we may like to buy.

The members of the School Council are: Aimee, Joel,Bethani, Kieron, Glyn,Lily, Oliver, Cerys and Kyle. We have meetings once a week and we encourage all pupils to come to our clubs after school hours.

We do like to keep fit, so we do have a lot of after school clubs and we also run a tuck shop for fruit every day.

We have dinner at 12.15pm. The infants have an extra 15 minutes dinner time. In the afternoon, the juniors go back to class at 1pm and have an afternoon break at 2pm.School finishes at 3.15 pm.

Most children from Ysgol Y Cribarth will go to Maesydderwen when they leave. The good thing about our school is that it is a bit bigger than the old schools so we have already got lots of friends before we go to secondary school. We have evenings and days in the Comp to get us ready.

If you want to ask us any more questions we will be happy to help.
