New Hire Biographies 2012-2013

Daniel A. Proulx – Math Dan earned a BA in Math Magna Cum Laude from College, winning the Math prize every year, and an MA in Math from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He loves solving puzzles and teaching. An graduate (), Dan grew up in Guilford, Connecticut, playing competitive soccer and , and skiing, among other sports. At college, Dan indulged his passion for working with technical theater and stage managing, and his passion for helping others as a dormitory Governor and House Fellow. Dan has tutored Math at Integrated Refugee and Immigration Services, at Kaplan, Inc., and has taught Math at the University of Colorado, and at Boulder Preparatory High School. Dan is a violist and magician, too! He will reside on the Middle School campus, teaching Senior School , advise, and coach boys soccer and boys tennis.

Denis C. Cronin - Spanish Originally from , a graduate of St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Denis earned a BA in Spanish and American Studies from Colby College and studied abroad in Buenos Aires for five months. While at college, Denis served as a Spanish tutor, an academic advisor, a sports journalist, and was a four- year letter winner on the football team. A veteran summer camp counselor, Denis loves working with students. For the last three years, Denis has been teaching Spanish at the in , serving as head coach of JV football, assistant coach of the nationally ranked Varsity team, and living in a boys' dormitory. During his time there, he has also coached boys' and led student trips to Costa Rica, Spain, and France. He will live on campus, teach four sections of Spanish, advise, and coach Varsity football and JV boys basketball.

Heidi C. Wall - Math A native who grew up as a "fac brat" at Phillips Andover, Heidi graduated Cum Laude from Andover. She earned her BA in Economics Cum Laude from Amherst College, where she was captain of the lacrosse team and was named a Regional and Academic All-American. Heidi began her teaching career in Mathematics at in Massachusetts, where, for three years, she coached and lacrosse, and lived in a dorm. Heidi spent two summers teaching Math in the Andover Summer Session at Andover. She also taught Math and coached Varsity lacrosse at in Maine. Heidi subsequently earned her Ed. M. from Graduate School of Education. Since relocating to Pittsburgh with her family, she has been working at Schoolwires, Inc. developing educational technology software for schools. Heidi will teach Math, advise, and serve as assistant Varsity Field Hockey coach and head coach for Girls JV Lacrosse.

Kristin A. Wilson – Physics (one-year leave replacement for Dr. Kathy Malone) Kristin comes to Shady Side from the Bolles School in Florida, where she has been teaching Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Anatomy and Physiology since 2008. While there, she received the “Tremendous Teacher Award” and the “Jessie Ball DuPont Quality Teaching Award.” She graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Biochemistry, a BA in Chemistry, and an MA in Genetics. At NCSU, Kristin won the “Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant” award. Prior to Bolles, Kristin taught Genetics in the summer program at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, and Biology at McNeese State University. Kristin enjoys running spring break service trips to the Dominican Republic and hopes to get involved with our service programs this year. She will teach Physics, time Girls Varsity basketball and assistant coach Varsity .
