The Bridges Monthly Features 5 April 28, 2016 Note to self: Be Determined Wittenberg’s Quips by Miranda Wittenberg by Rebecca Montecuollo Note to self: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes, and you can steer yourself in any direction you choose.”- Dr. Seuss. There are many situations where we would rather lie down and quit. The mind is a powerful thing. It can make you enjoy the best parts of life, but it can de- stroy your self-confidence and make you never want to do something again. The reality of the situation gets the better of us, but the difference between reality and dreams is your action to get something done. There is so much more to life than sitting around waiting for something to happen. There seems like there is never a way out, yet there is. We can rise up. The way to get out of self-doubt and discouragement is to believe in yourself, knowing you can do anything. Even if it is a sport or activity. There is a way to get through it, and it may be hard, but it is worth it. If you fail, get back up. It isn’t the end of the world. You have your whole life ahead of you; don’t let some- thing small impact anything so big. The hardest part is trying. The voices in your head are loud, but they can be silenced. You don’t have to listen to them anymore because your chains are gone and you are more than that. People may try and get in the way of your dreams, but you can rise above them. Note to the not so wise: The difference between you and the next person is you have determination to work through anything, determination to do your best no matter what, determination to be yourself. Don’t let anyone get in the way of your dreams.
