TEACHING ON BARDO
The state between Death & Rebirth 13 Jan 2013 Sunday 2 – 5 pm
About Ven. Dupsing Rinpoche The 1st Dupsing Rinpoche (1838-1898) was born in Western Tibet. He was known as Retreat Master Karzang Rinpoche and was the main Lama for Zuru Village. Zuru Rinpoche became the 2nd lineage holder of the Mendong Monastery. He passed away in 1898. Karmapa indicated that the incarnation of Zuru Rinpoche would be found in the area of Mendong.
The 2nd Dupsing Rinpoche (1902-1976) was found as predicted. After completing the traditional retreat, Rinpoche was sent by HH Karmapa to Mendong to take care of the Monastery. He did this until 1959. After that, Rinpoche left Tibet with a small entourage and went to Pokhara at the request of HH Karmapa. He settled down there with a small monastery. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama blessed the monastery with the name of Jangchub Choling Monastery. He was one of the gurus of Shangpa Rinpoche.
The 3rd Dupsing Rinpoche was born in South India in the year 1981 and was recognized by Shamar Rinpoche. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Buddhist Philosophy from Vikramashila Buddhist Institute in 2001 and graduated with a Master Degree in Theology from Cambridge University in 2007. He recently completed the traditional three-year Retreat in 2011.
What is Bardo? The Bardo is the intermediate stage between the beginning and the end of anything. The intermediate state between Death and Rebirth is an excellent time to recognize the Tathagatagarbha. While we are alive, it takes some effort to experience our true nature, but during the Bardo state between Death and Rebirth we experience it naturally. The only question is whether we recognize it.
In the teaching, Dupsing Rinpoche will be giving an explanation of the Bardo between Death and Rebirth. By understanding this Bardo, it is hoped that we will be able to go through the process without fear and also be better able to make use of this opportunity for recognising our Buddha nature.
