TOKYO, May 12th- “What is LOVE?”, the opening theme of “J-MELO” sung by “。'14”, a popular girls’ dance unit, reached number one on ’s music chart in January this year. “J-MELO” is a long-running music program of NHK WORLD TV.

The song was created based on messages from about 700 NHK WORLD TV viewers in more than 60 countries and regions, sent in response to questions posed by famous music producer “Tsunku♂” --- such as “What is love?” and “What does it mean to live?”.

“Love is something (that) doesn't need to pay back. It can be in one direction, but it also can be bidirectional” female/China- “You feel truly alive by never giving up and always trying new things” -female/U.S.A

Some of the messages were surprisingly long, reminding us of young people’s willingness to share their feelings through music. The song became even more popular, as a lot of videos were posted showing viewers singing and dancing to the tune.

It also explores the potential of music in connecting people, drawing on the high profile overseas of “Morning Musume。'14” and on the emotions of music fans captivated by this song.
