JKT48 as the New Wave of Japanization in Indonesia Rizky Soraya Dadung Ibnu Muktiono English Department, Universitas Airlangga Abstract This paper discusses the cultural elements of JKT48, the first idol group in Indonesia adopting its Japanese sister group‘s, AKB48, concept. Idol group is a Japanese genre of pop idol. Globalization is commonly known to trigger transnational corporations as well as to make the spreading of cultural value and capitalism easier. Thus, JKT48 can be seen as the result of the globalization of AKB48. It is affirmed by the group management that JKT48 will reflect Indonesian cultures to make it a unique type of idol group, but this statement seems problematic as JKT48 seems to be homogenized by Japanese cultures in a glance. Using multiple proximities framework by La Pastina and Straubhaar (2005), this study aims to present the extent of domination of Japanese culture occurs in JKT48 by comparing cultural elements of AKB48 and JKT48. The author observed the videos footages and conducted online survey and interviews to JKT48 fans. The research shows there are many similarities between AKB48 and JKT48 as sister group. It is then questioned how the fans achieved proximity in JKT48 which brings foreign culture and value. The research found that JKT48 is the representation of AKB48 in Indonesia with Japanese cultural values and a medium to familiarize Japanese culture to Indonesia. (Signature, Date) Abstract This thesis aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the growing popularity of Korean pop music (K-pop) worldwide in recent years. On one hand, the international expansion of K-pop can be understood as a result of the strategic planning and business execution that are created and carried out by the entertainment agencies. On the other hand, external circumstances such as the rise of social media also create a wide array of opportunities for K-pop to broaden its global appeal. The research explores the ways how the interplay between external circumstances and organizational strategies has jointly contributed to the global circulation of K-pop. The research starts with providing a general descriptive overview of K-pop. Following that, quantitative methods are applied to measure and assess the international recognition and global spread of K-pop. Next, a systematic approach is used to identify and analyze factors and forces that have important influences and implications on K-pop’s globalization. The analysis is carried out based on three levels of business environment which are macro, operating, and internal level. PEST analysis is applied to identify critical macro-environmental factors including political, economic, socio-cultural, and technological. -

Penulis terpacu untuk mencari apa penyebab konversi agama di kalangan menengah ke atas, karena dengan kepuasan materi dan ketenaran dalam karirnya lebih memilih beralih (konversi agama) untuk mendalami agama dan meninggalkan kepuasan dan ketenaran itu semua. Seperti halnya Sakti Ari Seno seorang musisi dari grup band Sheila On7 dan saat ini ia sebagai pendakwah agama. Berdasarkan realita tersebut, penulis merumuskan tiga persoalan yaitu: bagaimana proses terjadinya konversi agama Sakti Ari Seno, faktor apa saja yang mendorong terjadinya konversi agama, dan bagaimana kehidupan Sakti Ari Seno setelah konversi agama. Untuk menjawab rumusan masalah tersebut, pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi untuk mengamati dan menyelidiki fakta-fakta empiris yang terjadi, wawancara dengan Sakti Ari Seno, keluarga Sakti Ari Seno, orang-orang terdekat Sakti Ari Seno, dan Jamaah Tabligh serta dokumentasi. -

This research used both design theories and another related theories, hopping that results of this study particulary useful for designers and business people who will make similiar works. This research uses qualitative method which deliver descriptive data of cover artwork design and its information which is aligned with the theory and literature used. The result of research is a form of analysis of each cover artwork from Chrisye’s albums that consist of visual attractiveness analysis and practical appeal on every artwork. Penelitian ini berjudul “Strategi Penerjemahan dan Pergeseran Makna Onomatope Pada Lirik Lagu JKT48”. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode simak dan teknik catat. Teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah teori strategi penerjemahan yang dikemukakan oleh Baker (1992) untuk menganalisis strategi penerjemahan dan teori analisis komponen makna yang dikemukakan oleh Bell (1993) untuk menganalisis pergeseran makna onomatope. Ditemukan tujuh strategi penerjemahan yang digunakan dalam menerjemahkan onomatope pada lirik lagu JKT48. Pada penelitian diketahui bahwa strategi penerjemahan dengan parafrasa kata yang tidak berkaitan dapat menyebabkan pergeseran makna onomatope. Terdapat lima onomatope pada empat lirik lagu yang mengalami pergeseran makna. Kata kunci : onomatope, strategi penerjemahan, pergeseran makna Abstract Onomatopoeia is a characteristic of Japanese language that is very interesting to learn. However, due to the large number of Japanese onomatopoeias while their counterparts in Indonesian are very limited, sometimes these onomatopoeia become a constraint when the Japanese learner wants to understand more deeply about the meaning of the onomatopoeias. The cultural differences and background of the usages of onomatopoeia in Japan as well as in Indonesia cause problems in the translation process.This research title is “Translation Strategies and Shift of Meaning of Onomatopoeia in JKT48’s Song Lyrics”. -
